Additional cardio or strength training with 30 Day Shred

Hello MFP! I just received 30 Day Shred in the mail today, and I was wondering if those of you who have had success with this program do cardio or strength training in addition to her 20 minute workout. I know she packs a lot into 20 minutes, but, along with a good diet, I'm used to doing about 20-30 minutes of strength training followed by 30-45 minutes of cardio. Just wondering if this video alone is enough. Thanks!!

I had fabulous results when using it 5-7 days a week. I often did an extra 20-45 minutes of cardio along with it in the form of a run or elliptical session.

Great overall workout but you need to add some cardio. I have done it for 2 rounds for 45 days straight. 30 days of level 1/2/3 then the next 15 days was level 2&3. The first round I ran 1 mile after or before in 2009 (I really didn't like running). The second round I ran 2-3 miles after or broke it up and did 1 mile before and then 1 mile after. Also as time goes on I would up my weights. I started with 3lbs > 5lbs > 8lbs > 10lbs.

You will get the best results this way. Make sure you take measurements too b/c I lost lots of inches during 30 day shred.

I've been doing her online workouts and her dvds for almost 4 months and the results are amazing. I am so much stronger in all areas. She has a great program. I normally have to do at least 2 levels a day in order to get a good workout but I've been doing it for a while. Also, her online program suggests doing cardio only once a week and for a while that really concerned me. Then I just said fine and gave into it and again, I am amazed at how much easier my cardio is and how strong I feel doing it only once and sometimes twice a week. At this pint I burn about 230 calories per level. I wear a HRM so that helps me to count them.

good luck, you won't be disappointed.

HI there. I am just about to finish my 30DS and I also include a daily walk when possible. I feel that the exercise in the video focusing on many different muscle groups while walking is great for cardio. When I do both I feel a lot more sore which is actually a good thing. Good luck! :)

I've been doing a lifting program designed for me three days a week and cardio the opposing three days. When I picked up 30DS, I dropped it right into the routine - so I do 30DS daily, and do either lifting or cardio on schedule, with one resting day. I suspect this is very much a Your Mileage May Vary scenario.

I take my dogs on a walk every day and when I was really dropping pounds we were doing a 2 mile walk (moderate pace) every day and then I was doing the 30 day shred. I never actually did it all 30 days in a row though. I also would mix in her other videos and sometimes do more than one level a day. I say just do what is right for you. If you want to add more cardio because your use to it, then all the better!! I think you will get results either way, it's just a matter of how fast you get the results.

Good thread! I just started 30DS too, and was debating starting the C25K at the same time. It's interesting to see other people's take on adding extra workouts to 30DS. Food for thought!

Wow! Thanks for all the great comments! I really enjoy working out (don't feel like such a lazy bum!), and I'm glad no one thinks additional training on top of her sessions is too much. Good advice from everyone, and I will definitely try some of your suggestions to break up my somewhat monotonous routine.
  • This was very useful information for me too. I've completed day 17 today and I usually do it before work and then do cardio in the evening. Does anyone think it makes a difference if you break up the workout or should I do the cardio before or after the 30 day shred?
