Dodging Diabetes

I'm another who has been recently diagnosed as prediabetic. Rarely have I felt so clearly that I'm at a fork in the road of life: Change how I eat and exercise, or drift on over the waterfall into bad health. I've had an MFP profile for a while but haven't used many of the features (message boards, for example). Hoping to get some good ideas here. I tend to get into ruts and then get tired of whatever diet I'm following. Never get tired of the bad-for-me foods, though. Anyway, hello everyone.

Hello! I have not been diagnosed as prediabetic, but it runs in my family. Preventing diabetes is definitely near the top of my motivation list. Good luck to you!0

Well, I'm not officially pre-diabetic, but my A1C was 6.1, last I checked & combined with chronic inflammation of my hip, my health status indicates I need to start this party too!
Good for you for heading away from the waterfall! It's a lifestyle change! You just keep at it...0 -
Welcome nzstarz I am also prediabetic. I never got tired of the bad for me foods either lol but now that I've had this "scare" I know I cant do this halfheartedly anymore. Its either do it or get sick and well you know the rest. I've had a lifetime of diets and so sick of em, they never work in the long term. I had to search for something different, something I've never tried before which is called mindful or intuitive eating. You might want to google it sometime to read more about it but I'm learning how to eat again and eating very slowly, mindfully, only when I'm genuinely hungry and only to half-full not full to the point of uncomfortable as I have done in the past. Just enough to be satisfied. So far it is working. This, meditation and exercise. If you'd like to know more please feel free to send me a message.
I also bought me a glucose meter, someone in here suggested, I wish I could find him again to thank him cos it is a great incentive and I really do feel better when my blood glucose is in the normal range which is 4 to 8mmol and I dont feel tired. I see my sugars shoot up before or after I've eaten and I either do something about it w exercise or later reduce or even eliminate that food which is usually in the form of carbs. I see them go back down to normal range, then I know I am doing something right.0 -
The glucose meter is a good idea. Mindful eating would be a big change from my current habit which anything but mindful. Thanks for the tip.0

I used to be prediabetic. Then I had a health scare and came really close to being diagnosed as diabetic. I decided to make a lifestyle change about a year ago. Changed my diet and eating habits completely. Exercise regularly now. I'm no longer pre-diabetic as confirmed by the doctors tests. Am obviously very happy with my results!0
