Interval Running

Ooh and quick question! I just purchased an exercising app on my phone. It's called Running for Weight Loss. Basically, instead of running a steady pace, you do intervals of running, walking, and sprinting. I've heard it really helps burn fat more so than steady running does. Is this true? If anyone has done this instead of steady running for weight loss, please share your story!!

I do interval running after reading about it on Jeff Galloway's website. It involves alternating running and walking but I haven't done any sprinting. I find that it helps to burn a lot of fat and calories, mostly because it allows me to go longer. I'm not in love with running but it keeps me active and I'm losing weight. Today I went 9 miles and 3 months ago I couldn't even run 5 minutes straight. The walk breaks really help, both mentally and physically. Good luck to you!0

That's awesome! I've done running steady, but I'm getting so sick of it! Lol! Great job! I used to only be able to run a couple of minutes straight too, and now I can comfortably run 3-4 miles non stop, but I'm getting bored of the same routine!0

Not really
Fat consumption is greatest from long duration moderate intensity steady state, or from very intense low volume work. That said the proportion of fat from the higher intensity work is negligibly greater, so given the low calorie expenditure there's not much in it.

No.
If your goal is to maximize calorie burn, long not-to-hard runs are where it's at.

I like it because it feels like it goes faster...I did 20 minutes today. 1 minute at 4.2 mph pace [brisk walk] and 30 seconds at 8.0 mph [fast for me]. My machine has a button on it called speed interval. It takes 10 seconds to change between speeds so I switch at 50 seconds of my walk pace and don't switch until end of my run pace. You could also do outside with HIIT apps that beep at set intervals.0
