Hi,

I'm looking for some tips on eating. I've been trying to cut down on calories and stay away from stuff like fast food, which is easy. The hard part is trying to find better foods to eat. I know that processed foods aren't the best foods to eat but it seems like it's so hard to stay away from them. Is there anything I can do to try and eat better?

Make your favorite processed foods from scratch or stay to the outside of the store. I like to check out cookbook websites or recipes websites that can help me find good recipes from scratch and just get the ingredients I need for those recipes and make that, instead of buying boxed meals or other meals that are worse. my favorite recipe website is www.allrecipes.com and www.tasteofhome.com

These are all great suggestions! I would add that if you like chicken, try the Perdue Perfect Portion chicken breasts. They come in different flavors or you can get the plain kind and add Mrs. Dash seasonings to them. I love the Mrs. Dash Garlic and Herb. I cook several at the begining of the work week with various Mrs. Dash seasonings so I have a variety to eat at lunch time. I also pack ziploc baggies of celery and broccoli for snacks. Sounded gross to me at first too, but now I love my raw veggies. Also the lower sodium tuna or salmon in packages, not cans, and be creative with ingredients to your taste. Good luck! You can meet your goals!

It is hard to find healthier options out there and I know the battle. It's a learning process. Also if you like salads, I also prepare a huge bowl of the packaged salads (spinach or baby mixed greens) at the beginning of the work week and take that bowl to work with me. You can add radishes, cucumbers, sunflower seeds, baby carrots, etc and eat the portion sizes with your "real" lunch. Very few calories but filling. Salad dressing was a big issue for me because anything high in sodium I retain like crazy. I love Olde Cape Cod Fat Free Balsamic Vinegrette dressing. Lower in sodium than most fat free dressings but very tasty. Not sure if the stores in your area have it, but the best advice I can give is really watch the sodium content. Sometimes the lower fat dressings might have more calories but are better than the fat free. If it's calories versus sodium content, I choose the calories every time. Sodium can really mess with you!

I really appreciate the reply, thank you very much.

I love salads and I actually miss eating them but I always forget to buy salad makings when I go to the store. I think I'm going to look for the items you mentioned and try to portion it out through the week and that will be a good alternative to the pre-packaged stuff I tend to eat too much.

Thank you once again and if you have anymore tips or suggestions, if anyone does please let me know. I need all the help I can get! :)
