Does anyone know if they're accurate and if the calories are accurate too? I walked a little over 2 miles yesterday, including hills and it told me I burned 215 calories.. Thought that seemed low.. Just wondering if anyone else goes by this

Sounds right to me. It typically takes me 15 minutes to walk a mile. So 30 for two miles. Plugging that into MFP says I would burn 115 calories. Adding hills into that would account for more.

I use run keeper and its pretty accurate. it uses my iphones GPS and even tracks hills and how fast you are walking..... at 3.5 mph you can figure about 100 calories a mile.

not sure... BUT, If I have one on my iphone, I will compare it to my HRM this weekend and let you know!
  • Runkeeper is pretty accurate. I have used that with my HRM in place and they are about the same for calorie burn, give or take 10/15 calories! As long as you have loaded your height and weight accurately, they should be.

I tend to burn about 100 per mile....

it depends on ones speed and weight in determining calories burned. I usually can walk a mile in a litttle of 13 minutes which is about 4.5mph or more. I us endomondo to track miles, and speed. It is a great app! :)

Runkeeper would be a better app to use. I've found it's quite accurate on my runs. I have also used it when walking around, just for funzies- it's interesting to see the distance you walk in a day! It's all GPS also, so accuracy is way up there. You can even log your runs/walks/bike rides, etc.

I tried using my iPod's pedometer for a while and then compared it to a wrist pedometer. It ended up being pretty inaccurate over the long run and started interfering with the listening quality after a couple week's constant use. I've switched to a HRM for calorie counting and count mileage instead of steps now (I know my routes, so know mileage there). My suggestion—save your iPod for entertainment. :)

I have a built in one on my iPod Nano touch and it doesn't count each step, it may just be mine, but I'm not sure.

For just walking, that sounds about right. I wear my HRM when I run (5-5.5 mph), and I average about 100-110 calories per mile with an incline.
