NEED HELP..DESPERATE TO LOOSE WEIGHT

Hi I'm 5'5 and 250lbs.. im 26 yr old female. I want to loose weight but I'm totally lost. I put on here I want to loose 2lbs a week which is the recommended amount and it says I have to eat 1900 calories a day to loose weight and of course I'm gonna walk on the treadmill for maybe 45 min a day 6 times a week. Will eating 1900 and exercising help me loose weight? Or is 1900 calories too much? Thanks for your help

1900 and 45 min on the treadmill is a great start. Don't go too low if you can lose at a higher number. I weigh 100 lbs less than you and can lose on 1800 calories. So you'll lose faster than me0

Hi.... I'm 5'3 I'm currently 175, when I started MFP aprox 6 weeks ago I was 184. I followed the calories they allotted me and walked on my lunch break and I lost the weight. There were days that I went over but you just have to stick to it and don't give up. The only exercise I really do is walking during my lunch break and it really seems to help.0

Hi. I'm not an expert or anything but I think 1900 seems high. I usually eat around 1500 per day plus I do the 21 day fix workouts. I'm a male 5'11'' and I started off at 245 lbs. I'm now at 190, so that's working for me. My 1500 calories come from pretty healthy foods too...or at least I think so. Good luck and stick with whatever you do.0

Congratulations on your resolution
Exercise is for your health and fitness. You may eat some of your exercise calories back, not all of them. It is difficult to be accurate on calories burned.
Eating at a deficit is for losing body weight. Weight all food you ingest. Get yourself a good food scale
Follow MFP guidelines.
Read the post at the beginning of this board. They have useful information.
Manage your expectations. Remember how long it took you to acquire your present body weight. Losing it will not be faster.
This is a journey, not a destination. Slow and steady wins the race

I eat what MFP tells me to for my stats and the goals I set, eat back some, but not all, of the calories I earn from exercise, and since April my average loss is right where it is supposed to be.0

It looks like you entered Moderately Active as your activity level. If you were including the treadmill walking in your activity level, then DO NOT log the exercise for calories or you will eat too much. Otherwise, it looks fine to me if you really are moderately active.
If you weigh your food and log accurately, then check the results in 4 weeks. See how you did, and adjust accordingly.0 -
Im in the same boat as you because I feel like if I eat 1900 calories a day that im being a pig. MFP says for me to eat 1300 or so and I still haven't had much success. Of course im not one to weigh every single thing I eat and I know that's the problem. Im logging but im sure im wrong about some things. Its really important to be accurate but don't look to me for that because im struggling along with you. Add me as your friend if you want..my diary is open0

1,500 is actually the recommended minimum for a man, so you aren't eating much at all. Assuming OP entered her weight, activity level, and goals correctly, she should be able to create a deficit using MFP's calorie goal. Dropping below this may make it harder for her to stick to the plan.0 -

My 1500 calories were the MFP recommended amount for dropping 2lbs per week. I chose sedentary because I have a desk job. I have been losing 2lbs a week on my current plan. This is in reply to Jane's post. That's why I thought 1900 seemed a bit high.0

You're losing 2lb per week and have 26lb's to go?
I'm not gonna lie... this is a bad idea. You're probably losing muscle mass.
I don't see why people can't just take MFP's caloric goals and use them until they see results... and then re-adjust if it's not working.

I'm not saying you should eat more. If your plan works for you, that's great. I was just saying that depending on OP's current stats, activity level, and weekly goal, she may be able to eat more than you.

Good luck on your journey! 1900 is not too high at all. I am a 5'7", 32 year old female with starting weight of 247 lbs. I eat between 1980-2300 calories a day, some days are lower, and have lost 15 lbs since June 29th. With the right nutrition and exercise you don't have to starve to see results.0

1900 is great. I'm 150 and eat around 1800 a day and I'm still losing. It's great you are going on the treadmill but I highly highly suggest trying some weight lifting program as well. I wish someone would have told me this when I first started to lose.0

Hi. Welcome to MFP. Trust the webiste. I'm a 5'3" 195lb 37 year old. My calorie goal from MFP is 1440 for 1.5lb lost per week. However, I usually eat around 1700 because I eat back the calories I ear from exercise. 1900 sounds about right to me. I put your stats in this calculator and said you were sedentary and it gave me 1821a day if you were a bump on a log.

Your MFP plan works for you, it's individualized. If MFP gave OP 1900 then she should follow the plan made for her not your plan.

That makes me feel better.. and yes I was lost because usually to loose weight I just starve myself so 1900 is actually high compared to starving lol

My starting stats were similar, 220 5'5" i am at 193 now. I set mine to lightly active with s goal of 1.5lbs a week, and i get 1470 calories. I work on my feet all day long, and almost never sit for longer than 10 minutes even at home. However so far i lose on average 2 to 2.5lbs a week. But so far im not hungry, and im doing great. I dint excersize in the traditional since, but i know im not sedentary.0

In that case, Lightly Active sounds good as long as you are not also logging your afternoon walks. If you want to do that, drop down to Sedentary.

Is it really that hard to NOT pick at people who haven't even asked for your opinion of their weight loss plan? Seems to me that he IS following the recommendations set out by MFP. Smh...

Ditto on lightly active. I also stay home with the kids. I have a Jawbone fitness tracker and every day I tend to get just a couple hundred extra calories because of my activity, so I've found lightly active to be a good one to use to describe chasing after young ones.0
