What do you do?

Just curious as to what everyone does for a living. Do you think your job helps you with your weight loss or does it hinder you? My husband is a self employed contractor and I help him everyday....I have done metal roofing, shingles, fencing, remodeling and demolition (my fave) and much much more! I really think that doing this kind of work has helped me with my weight loss. If i had to sit at a desk all day long i really think it would be harder for me. I have had one desk job my whole life and it lasted a week because i thought i was going to go out of my mind just sitting there. So for everyone with a desk job...i give you alot of credit :happy: Check out my pictures and you will see me on top of a church roof where we are putting up steel!


And while you are reading this I will update my results since i have been on mfp.....

Today is my 152nd day and i have lost a total of 13.5 inches off of my waist
and 9 inches off of my hips and 2 inches off of my neck.....for a total of 24.5 INCHES LOST!!!
Also my ticker says i have lost 46 pounds but only 31 of that has been since MFP

    I work from home and omg has it contributed to my weight gain...

    I clean up pee, puke, and poop for a living. Wait - I just remembered, I don't get paid so it's hardly 'for a living', but it's fun (in a gross kind of way)! I'm a stay at home mom of 4!

    Girl you rock! I am certain that your job helps you immensely! Mine on the other hand hinders me alot. I am a VP of a small corporation and while I get up and down from my desk quite a bit during the day the long hours really hinder my weekly routine. I am married so I hate to get home after a long day at work just to leave my husband and head to the gym for an hour........ I value the 'marriage time' too! It's a very tough balance. We do golf together and do some things together but he has a bum ankle which prevents him from anything too intense (and he doesn't enjoy it the way I do.)

    I am finding it hard to squeeze it all in!

    Great topic, I'll be anxious to see how other folks deal with it! :glasses:

    Desk job, ya I definately think it makes it tougher. I love to eat so I have to run, alot.

    trust me i know what you mean...i was a stay at home mom for 10 years. I just started working with my hubby in january because all 4 of our kids will be in school this year!!! This is the hardest job of all but the most rewarding!!! :flowerforyou:

    I guess me working side by side with my hubby helps me not to feel bad leaving him with 4 kids while i go and run and then workout...we have a routine and he supports me 100% ... so i am very thankful for that!!!!

    Accountant - worked for a CPA firm for a while where I really just sat for hours upon hours sometimes well into the night. Currently I work for a mid-sized corporation and it's a decent sized building. Instead of calling people to ask them why they made moronic mistakes, I get up and walk over to them. Lol. Also, there's a great park across the street so on my lunch breaks (which are 1 hr!) I'll go there and walk some trails.

    I work for a plant that manufactures and warehouses pickles. It is hard to say if my job helps or hinders me. I spend some of my time at my desk, but I also keep inventory of all packaging materials and ingredients so I walk (and sweat) a lot. I also have a huge warehouse that I can walk around when weather is not cooperating outside. So, I would lean toward my job helps with my weight loss.

    I am an Inventory Specialist at a ConAgra Foods plant. Desk job 8 hours a day. I am also a wife and mother the rest of the day. My husband runs his own mechanic and body shop. My oldest son is 9 and my youngest is 4.

    I have a desk job at an insurance company...and it both helps and hinders my weight loss. It's helpful in the way that they have provided us with a low-cost gym that I can go to every day fairly easily. It's also helpful that there's a small cafeteria here that I can get a salad bar at. However, it hinders because that cafeteria has WAY more bad choices than good choices. And that candy store around the corner from me doesn't help much either...

    I make sure I pack my breakfast, lunch and snacks so that hopefully I won't be tempted by any of the bad choices. I've learned that it's much easier to make sure I plan ahead then to be tempted by the goodies and have to pay for it by stalling my weightloss/health goals.

    Manage Supply Chain into Distribution organizations. Analyze capacity utilization, manage and smooth MPS, communicate changes to the lead time. Validate that planning data elements are maintained correctly to keep supply flow and plant loading in synch with demand patterns. Work within the S&OP process to ensure that Long range schedule is achievable and supports the production plan and sales forecasts.

    That's off my resume. Kind of half glorified data entry clerk / half negotiator.

    I work at my state capitol as a legislative assistant. Not a whole lot of moving, but I do climb stairs throughout the day.

    First time I had a desk job and gained 4 pounds. That's why I'm here to stop the weight gain before it gets too much.

    I am a gaming regulator, and while most of the time it does not hinder my weight loss, those dinners and wine and dinning the state folks don't help! ;)

    Administrative Assistant here who sits on her wide butt all day in front of a computer. It definitely hinders my weight loss. It is also in a "bad" area of town so if you try to walk outside at lunch you get propositioned or asked if you are selling or buying. I'm a single mom of 2 as well so have to do all workouts at home as I can't afford sitters every night to get out to a gym. Those are my excuses for my plateau and I'm sticking with them :devil:

    Work at a bank behind a desk....I put on 30 pounds transitioning from my "on my feet" all day job.

    Plus....I get to be on myfitnesspal all day long =)

    I'm a hairstylist...which when you have a busy day its hard to get a moment to even eat one bite of something let a lone a whole meal. I also babysit from time to time

    Ok, so for all those who do have a desk job, as do I, here are a few things I keep in my desk drawer:
    A pair of weights, so I can get some bicep and tricep reps in.
    I know this only works on my arms and depending on the exercise, my chest and back, but it's something.
    I swing my feet alot so I plan on getting some ankle weights so while I'm in my chair I can put it up as high as needed or sit on my desk and do a couple of leg lifts. I am able to get up and walk around a bit, so I plan on using them when I'm wearing pants too. I am fortunate enough to be able to work out after work, but sometimes I will fit a small walk on the treadmill at lunch in.
    The exercise at the desk may not seem like a lot but I've noticed inches lost on my arms at least in the past several weeks. It may be a little to some, but a little can be much when done everyday. :wink:

    I'm a BOA.

    That would stand for Branch Operations Assistant.....I assist the branch employees at my bank with all sorts of administrative stuff...as well as qc a lot of their work...

    And now I'm also part of the customer service call center...so I do both. Lots of sitting, lots of angry snacking...so yes, it has made my weight loss HARDER!

    I consider myself a stay at home mom. But I also work on the side for NEPACIL as a caregiver for my mom. It can be a physical job. And I am on the road alot some weeks.

    I am a stay at home mom looking for a job since the kids are now in school full time. The job hunt does not help my weight loss because I am sitting in front of the computer alot searching for job openings and filling out online applications. Before that though I was on my feet way more cleaning and taking care of the kids.

    I'm a vet tech. It helps that it's quite physical, a lot of lifting, carrying, walking, cleaning, etc. You're on your feet most of the day. Plus putting the laundry out means navigating high, scary stairs!
