I am confused!!!

So... According to all the calculations I am supposed to be eating 1470 calories a day. I feel like that is higher than it used to be and I didn't change anything. My weight is the same... and everything. Here are my stats. I am 5'2, 282.5 lbs. I have it set to lose 2lbs per week. Does that seem normal for it to be so high?? And is there anything that would make that number change? Cuz for some reason I feel like the amount of calories I am supposed to eat was lower a few days ago.... I really want to get this weight off... so I don't want to eat more than I should. HELP! Thank you!

Sometimes MFP changes your goal.. go back and check that its still set at 2 lbs a week0

I'm doing as told... Started 198 almost 3 weeks ago and it was set for 1400 and feeling pretty good about it.0

if you exercise that day, it adds those calories back in to what you are able to eat... is that what you are noticing? and 1450 cals a day is still low enough really.0

You have to start out slow. It is annoying because we all want instant gratification. If you were having 3000 calories a day and started a 1200 calorie a day diet your body would go into starvation mode and you would not lose at all. Every 10 lbs lost the calories will recalculate.0

No, I am not looking at exercise calories. I mean, when I got on my computer this morning to add my breakfast it said my calorie goal was 1470, with out an food or exercise added. And I know I have to start slow, and I am totally fine with that... I just wanted to make sure that it makes sense to everyone else. I read the message boards so much, and see people eating 1200 calories, I think my mind just decided last night in my sleep, that I should be too... so when I saw 1470... It just shocked me I guess lol. I am new to all of this, and I want to make sure I am doing things right Thank you all for your help!0

I don't think that's low for your current weight. Mine is higher than that but I have myself set for 1.5lbs /week and slightly active which makes a difference. I'm 5'5" and currently 250. I have been averaging a 10lbs per month loss since October.0

Hey
I'm a guy, 6',5" tall, and to lose 1lb a week, I'm eating 2030 calories a day. Now, I know it's more calories for guys, but after four weeks, it works. I add a bit of exercise to my day, but I don't add calories - I stick to my 2030, and I'm down 9 lbs in May!
I've found the settings to be very accurate, and it works. You don't want to drop too fast or eat too little. You'll end up crash dieting, which sets you up for a big rebound, or your body will go into starvation mode, and slow down your metabolism. A slow, steady weight loss is the goal.
Keep at it and good luck!0 -
That's not that high and is actually pretty realistic.0

1450 is not low at all. Anything less than that is probably unhealthy anyway. MFP does a really good job of figuring out the calories you need so I would stick with it0

sunshine, I did the calculations, assuming you've set your activity level to sedentary, and you have no medical conditions, 1450 is spot on.
Now, if you're closer to lightly active, then it would be low (your maintenance would be about 2600 in that case).0 -
Thank you so much everyone!! I think my eyes, and my mind are just playing tricks on me! I am learning so much... its amazing how easy it is to diet... with out really having to diet! lol I am having no prolems staying with in this calorie range... Granted its only been a week... but so far so good. Thank you so much for the encouragement!0

This is not true. I'm 5"3' and have been on 1200 calories since April 2010 and as of today have lost 78 lbs and have not hit "starvation mode" yet. I started at 261 so I had/have a lot to lose. Everyone is different.0 -

I totally agree with you! I think people are way too hung up on the "starvation mode" theory. I think the main KEY is that everyBODY is different. We may have to test the waters a bit to see what works for us as individuals. I there is no one magic key or rule to weight loss.0
