Baby steps are good.
Start by logging what you eat now, just so you can see your consumption, maybe recognise what you can cut back on, and get used to logging.
If you don't have a food scale get one, they are great.
Then, working out your goal, it should be between .5 -1 lb a week.
If it helps, drop your calories gradually.
A bit of exercise helps. Cardio, for heart and lungs; strength/ resistance, for muscle and bone.
Eat back 50-75% of the calories you burn through exercise.
Take baby steps with exercise too, it is not needed for weight loss, but you do feel better doing a bit.
If you are not use to exercise, just look for something you like, or start walking.
I liked aqua fit as my first baby step in fitness.
Cheers, h.

I'm a mom of 3 boys (12,10,8). I lost 20 pounds from Aug 2014- Thanksgiving 2014. I was so good about logging and staying on calories and consistently exercising (walks and cardio gym class). As soon as I hit a little over 20 pounds loss my weight hasn't moved much.
I work full-time and my husband stays home. My boys participate in soccer and boy scouts which keeps our evenings busy and sometimes unpredictable. I find that the morning is a guaranteed time for me to get a workout in. I attend a 5:45am class at Ymca once or twice a week. In the past I use to walk my dog from 5:45am-6:45am, but when summer hit I got away from that due to later bedtimes. Lately I have tried to take walks during my boy's soccer practices to get my steps in (I have a FitBit) or during my lunch break at work. I also take a YMCA Body Pump class which I love, but some Wed evenings my boy's activities prevent me from going. I eat the same breakfast and lunch each day. I try for under 400 calories a meal. My dinners I try to leave more room so I can eat same foods as my family. This worked well last year. This year I have a problem with the afternoon munchies. It is just something I need to get over if I really want to lose the last 15 pounds I have left. Even though I have been stagnant for so many months, I feel like I have a better understanding of moderation. A slice of pizza with salad is okay, but never again will I eat 3 slices of pizza. Going hungry for one meal until I get home isn't the end of the world. When my boys see me eat a few of their tortilla chips, they tell me to log it. That's funny to me. Basically, it is going to probably take me another year to lose my last 15, but that's okay. This is a lifestyle change and not temporary "take this to my absolute limit" for me. And, I also have to remember its 80% food, 20% exercise. I can't out exercise what I eat no matter how hard I try to convince myself otherwise. Finally, I am in a MyFitPal group where we log our weight each week. That helps me stay accountable to myself. Everyone's stories are pretty interesting and motivating as well. Best to you!
