  • I had it with both my babies. Did you get the cream for you and the treatment for the baby? It made it much better for me. I was still able to breastfeed and took ibuprofen to help with the discomfort. Just make sure you treat both you and the baby after breastfeeding.
  • Also - if it's excruciating pain to breastfeed, try pumping. You don't want your milk supply to drop because you're not nursing. You can message me if you have any questions or anything!

I used something called gentian Violet when my daughter got it and the Nystatin did not work. My doctor recommended it. It makes everything purple but it worked. Ask your doctor about it or google it.

I had it when i was breastfeeding my son, i heard some comments that the cream doesn't work as good and fast, so i tried Gentian Violets, it worked in 3 days all gone! Just dip a qtip in it and pass the qtip around the inside of the babys mouth, it willbe Really Really purple and it may seem like alot, but do that once a day, for 3 days, it will work wonders! ALSO put some of it on your nipples it will cure them and the next day they won't hurt. You should google gentian violet and baby thrush, you can read more on it. Hope it helps, he had it twice and it has always worked.

I was going to suggest the same stuff. Try pumping if breastfeeding is too painful right now, but make sure you wash the pump really good.

Hope you and baby are better soon.

This! GV was the ONLY thing that has ever worked to get rid of thrush for us. Just be careful because it stains EVERYTHING it touches! (babies with purple mouths are hilarious) Also call around to pharmacies to see if they have it or you could wind up wasting a lot of time, I had to have the Kroger pharmacy order it for me because they were out. I guess a lot of places also keep the GV behind the counter.
  • Awwe! I'm so sorry! I know how awful it is! I had it with my daughter. I found after battling it for over 6 months ( .... yeah it was SO persistant!) Gentian Violet in my baby's mouth and on my nipples was the only was to get rid of it. I also had to boil all our baby bottles and pacifiers and even her favorite toys. Try expressing manually or with a pump and also nurse from different positions to put less stress on tender spots. I hope you are both feeling better soon. It really is a sucky thing to go through!
