Injured knee

So recently I injured my knee they're thinking severe pulled muscle or a torn ligament. So I'm in a knee immobilizer for 3 weeks. I can't do any leg work, so I was wondering how i could get some cardio and still loose weight even though I'm not allowed to do any leg work. My diet and amazing I'm eating so good, lots of fruits and veggies, some protein ect. Question is the work out part. What should I do? Thanks!

    You should ask your doctor. I didn't try to get any cardio exercise when I injured my knee until I was cleared to use a stationary bike. If you can stand and move around, you can burn more calories that way than you will by sitting. On the other hand, if you're supposed to elevate your knee, then you need to sit or lay down and follow those instructions. Three weeks won't derail you. You can do some chair yoga for your upper body. I've got another two months of restricted activity (plus the four I've already done) until my knee is considered fully healed. Follow the instructions! Your knees are precious.

    I'll try chair yoga! The doc said I can move around and do my normal excersises just absolutely no leg day until we figure out what's wrong. I'm currently using a cane to get around cause I hate crutches plus it's really bad for my other diseases to use them. I did arm day today and my knee is already killing me. This is abiut 3rd or 4th tike I injured the same knee. I hope your knee feels better soon!!

    I wish I had taken better care of a knee injury when I was young. 40 years later it is still a pain to address.

    Thank you, Kaylee! I hope that your knee feels better soon too. Are you scheduled for an MRI? It never hurts to ice your knee. Before my MRI, when we had no idea what was wrong, I was told to ice it for 15 minutes on/15 minutes off, as many times a day as possible.

    When I had knee surgery I was given crutches. Hopping behind crutches on your one good leg is extremely strenuous. According to my HRM, I was getting the same burn on crutches as my usual workout on the elliptical. Incidentally, the burn for walking on crutches in MFP was spot on for me. That entry was made by someone on my FL when she broke her ankle. The entry was calibrated to her HRM.

    You have to be careful using crutches. It can end up causing other types of pain, like shoulder, arm, hand and neck pain if you overdo it, and especially if your crutches aren't adjusted exactly correctly for your body.

    To be entirely accurate, I struggled with crutches because my balance is not good. I was given a walking frame and got around by hopping behind that on my good leg. I had to be strictly non weight bearing for several weeks after surgery. Besides getting blisters on my hands I didn't have any problems with that and the burn rate, according to my HRM, was the same as my regular cardio workout on the elliptical.
