Need some help guys, I have lost a little weight, and noticed some difference on the inches... and now my motivation has gone. Its like i've achieved kind of a little of what i wanted and now thats it. I think I can do what I want. Today I lapsed back into old eating habits again. So frustrated :(

  • I run into this problem everyday it seems. All I have been able to do to help is keep an image in my head of what I want to look like and focus on that. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. When it doesn't I just pick up and try it again the next day.
  • You know tomorrow you can start over! That's the nice thing. Don't weigh your spirit down with negative self-talk. If you are like me and do that you will wind up not caring enough about yourself to want something better for your body, mind and spirit. Start small....try this:

    1. Write a gratitude list - at least 5 things you are grateful for (do this daily)
    2. Get some air - deep breaths of air in a quiet place if possible
    3. Set very small goals and CELEBRATE achieving them.
    4. Brainstorm ideas of how you will celebrate your achievements - write them down **Make sure they do NOT include something that would sabotage the achievement :)***
    5. If you are Christian there are many encouraging verses and devotionals that can help you find peace during your transition into a new lifestyle. I'm sure other beliefs have that too but I can only speak from experience and mine is that God will carry and love you through this time. I'm not a radical - just one of God's kids ;)

I can relate. I spent months losing that same ten pounds over and over: losing then gaining it back and losing it again. However, I heard somewhere that if I did what I had always done, I would get what I had always gotten. So I decided to do something different.

What I did was set a series of goals. Having that next incremental goal motivates me to keep moving forward.

I have also done other new things, like blogging about my eating patterns and my emotional triggers that tempt me to eat. Blogging has helped me be more aware of my reasons (excuses) for eating as well as helped me find more functional ways to deal with my emotions, like walking or gardening, etc.

Hang in there. This, too, shall pass. Just keep putting one foot in from of the other.

It sounds like you need to set some clear long term goals, and start thinking about them daily. If your goals are not clear, are not in your daily thoughts, you won't keep them in sight and you'll lose motivation. In addition, if your goals are short term or interim-based, like "I want to lose some weight" or "I want to eat less" or things like that, you'll very easily lose sight of where you want to END UP.

You need to set goals for the END state. HOW MUCH weight do you want to lose in total? What body fat percentage would you like to carry ideally? What size jeans would you like to end up in? Getting these types of goals in focus will help keep you motivated for the long haul.

    Thanks guys.

Mike again the man who speaks sense. The longterm goal for me is promotion. When it happens I will very much be in a client facing environment. A mans gotta look sharp then. I wanna get back into a size 32 inch jeans. (Currently a 40), possibly get married and have alot of babies lol.

I think I need a new short term goal.. being able to run for 30 mins on treadmill, do x amount of reps etc... I dunno will have to think this through
