Travelling

I have a HUGE issue when travelling by car with snacking. I get bored and want to snack and was wondering what some filling, low cal options would be. I was thinking of bringing my almonds and I thought about trail mix except that is usually pretty high calorie. I know when we stop for food I can get salads and stuff at most fast food places, but I don't want to waste my cals for the weekend away on the road when I have a wedding to splurge on Sunday.

Avoid almonds! While they're good for a small snack, for things like car trips where you will snack a ton and kind of repetitively eat them, those calories will add up fast! (well... I know my self control and it'd be difficult for me to stop - so maybe bring just a small baggie). I'd suggest raw veggies if you won't be in the car for a long time. Carrots, peas, celery, they all give a satisfying crunch and are incredibly easy on the calories. Other than that, I would suggest something high in fiber since it will keep you full longer. Maybe an apple? Rice cakes are also satisfying for the calories, and I like Wasa Crisps because they have fiber and are like 45 calories a cracker - really good with hummus or some other spread.
Interested to hear what other people suggest.0 -
I feel guilty just thinking about all the sweet wrappers in my drivers side door right now.....haribo....mentos....twix. I'm awful, I have to snack when I eat, and when I'm watching TV too. Such bad habits!
sugar free mints might be good.0 -
I always chop up few apples for easy munching (I mix green and red for a bit of sweet/sour variety) as car ride snack. Throw em into a little cooler with some bottled water and maybe a couple diet sodas as a treat. Also, nuts are a good car snack but maybe try to prebag them in portions to keep you more aware of how many you're actually eating. Let me know how it works out.0

Yeah, its a pretty long car ride (11ish hours) so maybe I won't bring the almonds! Can't really bring veggies or hummus or anything as I'm not sure if we'll have a cooler (but probably not). I guess I have some of that sugar free trident key lime pie gum I can bring and snack on in between meals.0

OK...this won't get a lot of votes...
I air pop popcorn for road trips. I know it is not as good when it is cold. But truly I am snacking to be snacking and not because I am hungry. I also like Edamame (young tender, soybeans in the pod) 1.5 cups is only 120 calories.
I stick to raw veggies rather than fruit as they are so much lower in cals. Baby carrots take awhile to chew and they do consume the time. Raw veggies sprayed with Wishbone Salad Spritzers are great. Spritzers are 15 cals for 10 spray. I like to spray the wassa crackers for flavor.
As a treat I make up a gallon of Crystal Light to keep my refillable water bottle going.
If your riding find something that occupies your hands like a hand exerciser. Eating can be habit and if you distract yourself you might find you don't eat as many snacks. Best of luck to you.0
