Gaining 100 lbs in a year is really starting to get to me. I have no energy and I'm addicted to energy drinks. Sometimes I drink 5-6 in a day. I really want to start losing weight again but I feel like if I can't quit the drinks, there's no way I'll be able to do it. If anyone has any tips to get motivated to not drinking these things and getting back in shape, please share.

Addictions are bad things, my mind is screaming no at my body but despite that I still do what's bad. I don't know why it makes me feel stupid.

Have you tried switching to the sugar free ones? I understand they taste nastier to some people (personally I cant stand any of them . . .) But maybe if you start with the sugar free at least you can separate your guilt over the calorie consumption from your anger over the addiction and deal with them one at a time.

I think nos sells a red drink that is sugar free - I sed to drink it at school all the time and one day I noticed the sugar free label. Good suggestion I might try it.

Start exercising even if you can't figure out the energy drink issue. One step at a time. Start healthy habits where you can and the rest will naturally follow. You may find you need less energy drinks when natural endorphins kick in too.

Start with exercise. Make some healthier choices during the day. It doesn't have to be all or bust to get started. Even one healthier change is better than none.

Have you considered counseling? You may get a lot of support and internal strength there, if you're willing.

Also, you don't need to stop all of the energy drinks at once. Limit yourself to two a day, lunch and dinner say, with the expectation that as you drink them less, and water more, eventually you can cut them out. Give yourself a month to get down to 2, and another month to get to zero. If you start logging all of your food, and see the number of calories you're drinking a day, that you could be eating a burger and even some fries with, you might become a lot more motivated.

I struggle big time with the energy drinks-- I truly believe there is something dangerously unhealthy about them. I get to a point of 3-4/day, then quit, but if I have even one it's just a matter of time before I'm back to 3-4/day. The thing that was most helpful for me was to replace them with a healthier alternative, coffee. I hated coffee, but I learned to tolerate it. If you're a coffee person, it wouldn't be a problem for you. But it helps with the physical withdrawals of the caffeine. I truly hated it at first, but I grew a tolerance for it. Started with 1/2 coffee, 1/2 milk and maybe a little sugar, and weaned my way down to black coffee. The other major component of the energy drinks is the Vit-B complex, which improves mood. I think that's a part of the addiction factor. Possibly consider taking a Vit-B supplement. I'm not a doctor so don't quote me, but if I remember correctly, Vit-B is water soluable, so if you choose to add it to your diet, you don't have to worry about having it in excess because your body flushes out anything you don't use. Most of the supplements taste (and smell) nasty, though.
