I'm wondering what everyone adds to their salads for texture? I normally go for croutons or nuts but those tend to be high calorie. I like to add something that crunches but want to keep it low cal. Any ideas? Thanks.

Roasted and raw vegies, quinoa (don't over cook it), seeds, edamame.0

Crunchy stuff I put in my salads:
 - raw bell peppers, chopped (usually the salad bulk)
 - cucumbers
 - toasted sesame seeds, 5 g
 - sunflower seed kernels, 5 g
 - crispy fried onions, 7 g
 - baked tortilla strips, 7 g0

My mix ins, not all at once, of course, include:
 raw almonds
 raw cashews
 dried cranberries
 goat/feta cheese
 shredded.diced cheddar or other cheese
 broken up tortilla chips
 bacon crumbles, deep fried
 carrots
 shredded red cabbage
whole cherry/grape tomatoes because they squish
 corn and peas
 onions
 bell peppers
let's just say raw veggies are fair game.
I love me a good salad. I always eat mine with protein, usually chicken or steak.0

Most of my favorites are already listed. You might also try pepitas. They're calorie dense, but you really don't need many.0

I usually throw in one or more of the following:- radishes (red or daikon)
- cucumbers
- onions (red and green)
- apples
- carrots
- celery

and then I use a MASSIVE amount of lettuce. I'm talking mixing-bowl territory. It's impossible to feel hungry after that much chewing!0

Slivered almonds, red peppers, kalamata olives, apples. What's wrong with croutons and nuts? Use those.0

I know you know your nuts. Wait. . .what?!? Kale chips, sesame sticks, croutons wrapped in bacon with cashews. . . .Liftng4Lis wrote: »Slivered almonds, red peppers, kalamata olives, apples. What's wrong with croutons and nuts? Use those.0

Fried onions--maybe not the healthiest option, but you wouldn't need to use a big portion and they definitely add great crunch and flavor.0

Lettuce. The white parts of iceberg lettuce are really crunchy. Some raw fruits and veggies are crunchy, too. 0 0
