So I heard that drinking green tea helps with weight loss. I drink one cup a day probably. However I read online that you need to drink 5 cups a day for it to help with weight loss.
Thoughts and/or experiences on this?

It won't make you lose weight. It is a nice drink for very few calories though.0

No, any effect is marginal at best, and there are no current conclusive studies in humans. This is a link to a meta-study that analyzed much of the research that has been done, and I'll quote the conclusion.

Green tea preparations appear to induce a small, statistically non-significant weight loss in overweight or obese adults. Because the amount of weight loss is small, it is not likely to be clinically important. Green tea had no significant effect on the maintenance of weight loss. Of those studies recording information on adverse events, only two identified an adverse event requiring hospitalisation. The remaining adverse events were judged to be mild to moderate.
Drink green tea because you like it, but it's not going to help you lose weight any more than a solid CICO based plan.0 -
The only way it helps a person to lose weight is if they use green tea in place of food/non-diet drinks (and thus creating a calorie deficit).
Personally, I'm trying to get into the habit of having a cup of tea when I'm experiencing boredom hunger or as a "the kitchen is now closed for the night" ritual. It's zero calories and gives me something to do until my next meal (or until I go to bed).0 -
Thank you! I genuinely like green tea so I'm still going to drink my one green tea a day, mainly cause I get tired of water :P I should start infusing my water to give it taste too.
I didn't think green tea could have that kind of impact on weight loss. I also thought 5 cups a day was a lot haha.0
