Pasta confusion?

I haven't eaten pasta since I began my weight loss 45 days ago.

Tonight I'm stuck in with only pasta and low fat mince.

When adding my chosen brand of pasta to my diary. Would 100 grams of pasta be dry or when cooked? It's saying about 180 calories when I put in 100 grams. I don't want to over eat. So is that 180 calories for dry or cooked?

    Always weigh it dry, but it's usually 180-200 calories for 56g dry (which in my experience is about 120g cooked, but it depends on how long you cook it etc).

    pasta is ~360 cal per 100g dry weight, weight of cooked pasta depends on type and cooking time

    180 cal will be for cooked in your case

    What does the package say? Normally the package will give dry weights, and that's easier IMO. A serving is usually quite a bit smaller than 100 grams dry, however.

    I do mine wet its usually 180-220 calories per cup of cooked. Depends on pasta I eat wheat myself.

    Mine doesn't. Just says 100 grams.

    I am guessing 100 grams when cooked will be ALOT.

    Pasta is a pure carb at ~4 calories per gram dry.
    When you cook it who knows how much water it will absorb?
    Some people like their pasta al dente, some eat it mushy, the calories are the same the weight is different.

    If you want to avoid confusion, weigh it dry.

    Thanks :) I'm in the UK. Our pasta just says 100 grams nutrition.

    I eat white pasta. Don't love whole wheat.

    I'll cook 100 grams of the 500 gram pack of dried macaroni and weigh out 100 grams when cooked so I can get an idea.

    Not really -- 100 grams dry would be, though.

    I'm off to cook. I'll probably be hungry later. I'll do 60g dry.

    I usually have 84g dry if it's for a main dish, lol.
