Bulimia

Hi everyone,
I've been using this app on and off but I've also had bulimia for half my life since age 15 I'm now 30. Haven't logged on for a while but today I'm determined to start using it again as I've put on almost a stone in a few weeks and it can't go on! I guess really I'm seeking some support/encouragement from people who may have experienced bulimia to build up my support network, I've been referred to eating disorder team, I'm guessing they will tell me not to count calories or try and 'diet', so a bit confused whether mfp is the best way forward or detrimental to recovery? Hope to hear back from some of you, thanks in advance

I could have written that myself! Sometimes my eating disorder goes out of control. I have been dealing with it since I was around 13 and now I'm 28...0

Same length as me then, it's horrible isn't it yeah same sometimes it just gets the better of me and yep totally out of control. Do u find mfp helps you or makes you feel restricted and triggers a binge? For me it really depends on my mood, sometimes it can really help me but other times I feel like if I mess up and go over calories then it makes me think sod it I've messed up so il binge and purge and start again tmrw! I'm gonna try again tho coz not documenting my food means I just eat constantly like all day long, can't bloody win lol. Wish I could buy a self control pill lol0

I'm a recovering bulimic/binge eater so feel free to add me. I find MFP helps me a lot. Don't recommend if you cycle between restricting/binging tho. Restricting + MFP = not a good combo. Trying to recover from the binging and eating healthy, just using MFP to record when you've eaten and what, to find anything that may be triggering binges and recognize your eating patterns = ok.0

Also recommend starting at a calorie count that provides maintenance (a steady weight) and not weight loss, at least in the beginning.0

Forgive my ignorance, but I am wondering if my disorder would be considered as bulimia? you see I eat when I'm upset but I eat to the point of almost throwing up, but I don't. I can't stand the feeling of throwing up... But I eat until I'm numb so I don't have to feel my feelings. If that makes any sense. is this considered bulimia?0

No, bulimia is when you do make yourself throw up. What you describe sounds like BED - binge eating disorder. Please get some professional help and take care of yourself.0 -
