which popcorn

I have to send my boyfriend to the store with a list of things to get to last us for the next few days. I refuse to let him do the full shopping because I know how he shops (very very badly- horrible food choices). I am only sending him because after falling on my knee today- I just can't handle doing all the walking.
Anyways. I have fruit (bananas, oranges, apples) on the list for snacks, but I LOVE popcorn. What kind of popcorn should I put on the list? It HAS to be microwavable (we're having to replace our stove). I tend to always get the "extra butter" or "theater butter" kinds and I am sure those aren't the best of choices. But without being able to go to the store to see for myself- I don't know which to have him get.
(And yes- if its "only a few things" I COULD go to the store and do it myself...IF it wasn't a 45 minute drive. Walking isn't the only thing that bothers my knee- having it bent for very long makes it BURN!!!!!)
So please- pop corn suggestions!
By the way- Wal-mart is the closest so that's where he's going! So if you know if brands that WAL-MART carries- that would be best!
Getting him to look at labels is impossible- so no, i can't just tell him to find whatever is healthiest. With my luck he'd come back with the "healthiest" extra-butter kinda! bahaha

Orville reddenbacker 100 calorie packs. There are 2 or 3 varieties. I like the kettle corn myself, but I think the other one might be butter.0

Bumping to see answers. I am a popcorn addict and eat Orville's Tender White or Simply Salted. Don't know if those are good choices or not, but taste wonderful with a ton less fat than the others.
p.s....sorry about the knee.0 -

make sure you tell him to get the mini bags, the regular size are like 270 cals.0 -

Thanks! Got it added to the list!!!0 -
I really like Kernel Season's butter spray. You just spray it on your popcorn after you microwave it. It has zero calories. You can also get different toppings to put on as well, like kettle corn and nacho cheese, etc. but the butter spray adds the butter taste without the calories.0

They sell it at Wal-Mart and the grocery store. It's usually on the top or bottom shelf near the popcorn. I love it! I probably eat it way more than I should!0

You should invest in an air popper and pop your own! You just plug it in, and pop away. You can eat a lot bc it's just plain and still stay in low calories. The food tracker says 5 cups is 100 calories so you feel like you're eating a lot but you really aren't!0

First stop - the small appliances aisle. Pick up the Orville Redenbacher Presto Power Pop. it's a clear bowl with a stand and a cavity at the bottom. Should cost about $14.
Next stop, popcorn aisle for plain popcorn kernals. (FYI - if you have a store that sells them in bulk nearby, go there next time, they're always cheaper that way)
To use you just measure out the kernels into the bottom of the bowl and put it in the microwave. It's pops up and fills the entire bowl with fresh, hot, popcorn that has absolutely no added salt or oils. Delicious and amazing. Also will be cheaper in the long run then continually buying boxes of mini bags.
Also, between the different 100 calorie mini bags, I think that the Jolly Time ones pop up better and taste better than the Orville Redenbacher ones or the Pop Secret ones.0 -
I know this is an old post, but if it can help any of you or someone else it's worth posting! You can microwave popcorn kernels! Put a little bit of oil pver 1/3 cup of kernels in a measuring cup & mix it, then dump in a small brown paper lunch bag. Fold over the top & microwave! (My microwave is hot, I do 2:20 on power 9.) I just spray a little canola oil spray & sprinkle a little salt. Delicious & low calorie!0

You can do the microwave thing in the brown bag, but you don't even need to put any oil on it - just dry kernels in the bag, fold it down and pop it like you would any microwave popcorn. Then add whatever you want to it when it's done (coconut oil is my latest fave).
Sooooo much cheaper and much better for you than the store-bought micro stuff.0 -
I love the 160 calorie bags of the Orville Redenbocker Naturals Salt n Pepper mini bags.
Its just enough popcorn for me, and the flavor is fantastic. nom nom nom0
