My understanding was this is why (in the U.S.) the ingredient list would say "100% whole grain wheat" if it's the whole actual grain as opposed to "whole grain wheat" which could mean various things. Any claim of whole grain on the front in splashy fonts is suspect, IMO. And of course just because a product CONTAINS "100% whole grain" doesn't mean there isn't also enriched flour as an ingredient on the list, too.

So would puffed wheat be worse for us because it's been puffed?

It doesn't list 100% whole grain wheat as an ingredient, so that means at least some of the portions of the wheat have been removed. Which is probably why in 22g of carbs there's only 1g of fiber.

22/1 proportion carb to fiber is what whole wheat has.

Just to compare, if it was a whole grain wheat product how many grams of fiber should it have?

    Good read.
At the very least, it encourages me to use the steel cut oats in my cabinet that I've been avoiding.

I think whole wheat has closer 3 or 4 grams of fiber per 22 grams of carbs.

*looked again. I was comparing total calories. I bow to you, @daniwilford . The only way I could see that the fiber is lower with the puffed wheat product is that some of the fiber flakes off to the bottom of the bag.

I'm still suspicious of the tone of the article. How possibly can a puffed product be inferior? The processing, truly, is minimal.

That sounds about right for 100% whole grain wheat.

I'm also confused as to why they are saying fiber is important in a healthy diet, but then only focus on grains as a source of fiber. Very little of the fiber in my diet comes from grains.
