Healthy Snack Suggestions

I'm doing really well on preparing healthy meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I have trouble switching to healthy snacks. I used to eat cookies and chips but I don't want all those calories. Can anyone suggest some healthier things to snack on between meals? I don't want all of my calories to go towards snacks.

The difficult part is not in finding healthy snacks, but finding healthy "filler" snacks. Popcorn is a great solution, as long as you dont over season, or dont add to the healthy pre-seasoned.
Here's some info from bellybites.com on popcorn:
Smart Balance Light Butter
Smart Balance's buttery flavor makes you feel like you're at the movies -- without the grease and guilt. WIth no hydrogenated oils or trans fats, just 100 calories, 3.5 grams of fat, 1 gram of saturated fat and 85 milligrams of sodium per serving (4 popped cups).
Newman's Own Organics Pop's Corn, Light Butter
Newman's short ingredient list is all organic, with no hydrogenated oils. It is not quite as buttery as the Smart Balance Light Butter, but is great if you are in the mood for something that tastes less intense. Each serving (3.5 cups popped) has 140 calories, 4.5 grams of fat, 2.5 grams of saturated fat and 130 milligrams of sodium.
Jolly Time 100-Calorie Mini Bags, Healthy Pop Butter Flavor
There is a small amount of partially hydrogenated soybean oil in this brand, but the 100-calorie bag is still great for nights alone with a good movie. The whopping 5-fluffy-cup serving has 100 calories, 2 grams of fat, no saturated fat and 200 milligrams of sodium
Newman's Own Organics Pop's Corn 94-percent Fat Free Unsalted
If you prefer all natural popcorn, or dressing it up with your own flavorings, this is the bare-bones pick for you. Like the Newman's Own, this one has no partially hydrogenated oils and is organic. Each serving (3.5 cups) has 120 calories, 1.5 grams of fat, 0.5 grams of saturated fat, and 30mg of sodium. Pop it up, add just a pinch of salt, and you have the perfect snack
I find sunflower seed are great...especially if you like to crack the shells...long snak over time, minimal on the impact. I eat the SPITZ branded Smokey BBQ.
Also, mix in fruit and nuts. just be careful if your more concerned on calorie counting that overall food impact. Nuts are awesome for the healthy side, but negative on the filling. Most servings are but a hnadful (1/4 Cup),
Subbing in a protein shake make work too!0 -
Well, I love the crunch of an apple! I know it's not the same as chips, but it's good! Pretzels are better than potato chips!0

Fat Free pudding and a low fat grahm cracker crushed up in it.
Veggies and 1 tbls low fat dressing
Fruit (Grapes, Blueberries, Cherries)
Pistacio nuts or any nuts
Jolly Time 100 cal mini bag of popcorn
Sugar Free Jello
Wheat thins with 1 oz of Low Fat Cheddar Cheese or Hummus.
Baked Tostitos with 2 tbls Salsa
pick one that fits into your goal for the day. I eat Grapes and Popcorn every night before bed. I leave enough stats from the day so I can have my snack before bed every night. I don't believe you can't eat after 8. I eat when I want as long as I have the numbers.

Hi..Of course we know the obvious, carrots, celery, cucumbers etc all which could be doused in chili pepper, Yum But other cool alternatives are: frozen grapes, washed before freezing-they taste like tiny ice-creams, soy bean in their pods are delicious and you have to work a little which satisfies that craving, as well as an artichoke with nothing on it except a little olive oil and spices, hummus dips are great with any veggie. These are some of my favorites and satisfying too Enjoy...Good Luck!! Andrea0

My new-found snack favorite is Wasa Sesame crisp flatbreads: http://www.wasaflatbread.com/
spread with 1/2 TBSP of Krema natural peanut butter and 1/2 TBSP of Smuckers All Fruit strawberry spread.
Because the crackers are so thin, that small amount of PB&J are the perfect amount, and the crunch is fabulous!! I think it comes in at around 140 calories, 18 g. carbs, 6g fat, and 5g. protein.0 -
oh, and another favorite is black bean corn chips with hummus and 5 or 6 grape tomatoes.0

Right now my favorite snack is Larabars...they come in so many flavors, you won't get bored and they are delicious!!! They're filling too, since it's made from fruit and nuts only. My favorite is apple pie, but peanut butter cookie, key lime pie, lemon are tasty too.0

Mine are string cheese, fruit, veggies (especially with salsa - low cal), ff potato chips (in moderation), organic pretzels. Someone mentioned the dark chocolate sugar-free pudding - add a little reddi-whip, which is only 5 calories a serving, for a treat. Love all of these suggestions the others have posted here.0
