Help synching garmin vivoactive

I finally saved enough to buy myself a new fitness tracker a couple weeks ago. I had the original garmin vivofit for a year until I lost it while traveling ( horrible band that kept coming out on that one). I decided to get a vivoactive since it has decent battery life and is water proof. I have been trying for two weeks to get it to pair and such with the garmin connect app. I have even uninstalled the app, unpaired the phone with the vivoactive and nothing works. I keep getting a server error. I know the device is actually paid with my phone since I get the notifications without any issues. But it is useless to me unless I get it to synch with the app so I can adjust my calories in MFP. Help!!! I am about ready to return it and get something else that works...( Suggestions on that please). Thanks!

    have you plugged it into your computer and gotten all the latest firmware and software updates.
    I had mine for a week and hated it until I realized that was the problem.
    Other than that try creating new accts for Connect and App and see if it's just an account issue

    Thank you. I connected to the computer and can sync it with difficulty there too and it fails to install and something. Let me try that first and good idea on starting a new account for connect!
