sugar = no big deal

I hear it A LOT that sugar isn't a "big deal" when it comes from fruit, since even 2 pieces of fruit can put you over your sugar goal for the day. Most people ignore the red numbers, as long as they are coming from the fruit.

My question is- NUTELLA...Holly WOW! 21g of SUGAR!!!! Is there any possible way that this is one of those "no big deal" types of foods?!
Also...HOW is Nutella SO MUCH better for you then peanut butter?

I have a jar of "Always Save" brand peanut butter sitting here and the nutritional facts are
CALS 200
TOTAL FAT 16
SODIUM 120
TOTAL CARBS 6g
DIETARY FIBER 2g
SUAGR 3g
and PROTEIN 7g

Nutella however-
CALS 200 (same as PB)
TOTAL FAT 11g (ok so that is a little better then PB)
SODIUM 15g (ok...better then PB)
TOTAL CARBS 22g (way MORE then PB)
DIETARY FIBER 1g (Less then PB)
SUGAR 21g (WAY MORE then PB)
PROTEIN 3g (less then PB)

ok so the Fat and sodium are better. but does that make it worth all the hype I have heard about Nutella?

I haven't heard anywhere that Nutella is better for you. A lot of people think Nutella tastes better, but that's about it. The fat in peanut butter is all good fat, so the more of it the better.

And I don't think the sugar in Nutella is good for you. Look at the ingredients. There is a lot of added sugar in there.

Last time I looked at a jar of Nutella, I saw that the first ingredient was sugar. I haven't eaten it since. Despite the commercials insisting it's healthy, it's not really good for you.

Despite the calories you're much better off having a little bit of natural peanut butter than Nutella.

    are those comparable serving sizes??

also - nutella is delicious. I have never assumed it was "better" than peanut butter (nutritionally speaking) but HOLY COW is it scrumptious! worth the calories for the pleasure of it, IMO.

I've never once heard that nutella is better for you than peanut butter. Check he ingredent list...if sugar is on it, that explains the high amount of sugars.
  • Have a look at te ingredients - if it says sugar than its artificial/added and rubbish!

The commercial says it is. I haven't actually picked up a jar yet and looked at it. But i've heard a lot about it here on MFP...so I just sent the boyfriend out to the store, and Nutella was on his "to get" list.
Then I decided to look up the nutrition on MFP...(stupid stupid stupid!)

I think I regret it now! Nearly $5 for a jar of SUGAR! Oii! Wish he had a cell so I could call and tell him not to get it! *Crosses fingers that he can't find it or for any other reason, just doesn't buy it!!!!*

Whether Nutella is better for you or not doesn't matter to me.
What matters to me is that I couldn't afford to eat it if I wanted to!!!! LOL
I bought peanut butter today and actually was looking at the Nutella and it was $2 more per jar.
I have to live on a budget!

Around our house PB lasts FOREVER. So I thought it wasn't that bad...*sigh*
I guess I can always return it when I'm able to go to the store in a few days.

how much do you get per serving? I've never tasted it.. I wonder if it would be better than say a brownie ect.. maybe once a week won't be bad? Dipping with apples

We eat about a jar every week or two!
But if you aren't worried about the price then open it up and try it!!
    You might really like it!
It may have alot more sugar, but if it is super delish then maybe it could be a treat type food. IDK
Could be a new family fav!

Nutella is okay, just not that big of a deal to me. It's based on a recipe of hazelnut and chocolate, so if you're really craving it try making a dupe spread in the food processor using hazelnuts and cacao. You may still need to add a bit of sweetener to it, but at least you could control the amount. I've seen lots of foodie websites with recipes to make your own.

Nutella is sooo good! We eat it here, but we definitely don't use the 2 tablespoon serving size. I use 1/2 tablespoon for me and dd gets a little bit to spread on a tortilla with some PB and a banana. We use it in moderation.

Now, in the past I have definitely used pretzel sticks and dunked it in the nutella!

I absolutely love nutella! Unless you've got a major sweet tooth I can't imagine eating a full 2 tbsp of it! The stuff is very very very sweet! A super thin smear, probably less than a tsp on a toasted english muffin!!!! Oh YUMMY!!! But, healthy? Not!!! Advertisers tried to use the idea that hazelnuts were better for you than peanuts. Only if your allergic to peanuts!!!!

I've compared it to Jiffy Natural PB and Nutella came up WAY short in so many ways that I didn't find the price tag worth it. Although I would like to find out where to get that "better than peanut butter" or Wonder stuff or whatever it is also! THOSE I wouldn't mind trying. Especially since I like PB&J once in a while and holy cow.. the cals.....and most of them from the PB!!!!

Nutella is not better for you than peanut butter, especially if you choose all natural peanut butter (no added sugar). Nutella has chocolate in it and so should be eaten in moderation. It is yummy tho!

  • I've also never heard that Nutella is better than peanut butter but I have heard that almond butter is better than peanut butter. I'm also talking about pure almond butter, no additives.

When I eat Nutella, I eat it as a dessert of some kind. Like my cheat meal or something. I never heard it was healthier than peanut butter. It's tastier, in my opinion but not healthier.
