Afraid...

Now that I'm halfway through my weight loss, I'm starting to get worried that my goal weight won't be enough.

I'm a 5'8" (approximately) male, with a current weight of 172 pounds (210 starting weight).

My goal weight is set at 140 pounds... will this be enough?

5'8 140 sounds a little on the skinny side to me, but what do i know LOL

the guy im interested in is 5'10, maybe 5'11 and 200 lbs and other than a slight gut (that bothers him far more than me) is perfect (again, to ME- we all have our preferences)

If it's not, adjust your goal weight.

at 5 foot 8, 140 lbs your bmi will be about 21, that would be on the low end of normal. however, it is possible to have a low to normal bmi and high body fat percentage (25% or more for a young male). you might want to aim for a higher weight but lower bodyfat (less than 15%). the only way I can think to do that is to try and develop muscles through resistance training.

If you mean 140 at 8 percent then yes that would be ok. Otherwise no.

At 19, it is possible you still could grow a bit taller in that time too. Many people here look at recomp when they get to their goal weight. Since it is impossible to gain muscle in a deficit, you may not be pleased with your appearance yet. If you are not doing so now, think of starting resistance training, this will help you retain muscle as you continue to lose. Once you are no longer overweight, re-access. You may want to recomp, or do some bulk and cut cycles. A young guy like you has a lot of choices. Congratulations on the foundation you have established by your hard work, and good luck building on that.

Don't worry about it now. When you get there, reassess the situation.
