I tried MFP a while back for a few weeks and just dropped out. I had not lost much and was discouraged. So trying again. I did well with WW and expected pretty much the same results. If I do not go over my calories but go over say on sugar or carb, have I messed the day up? I cant seem to even out all the way across.

No. Weight loss is eating fewer calories than you burn. WW works on the same premise. With MFP you are responsible for logging what you eat and estimating what you burn. MFP will estimate your calorie burn to an extent but you still must enter your activity level.0 -
I wouldn't worry too much about macros unless you're trying to eat high protein/low carb or some such thing. Simply staying within your allotted calories is enough in itself to lose weight. Maybe try keeping it as simple as that.
That being said, you do have to be very good about tracking calories/portions by weighing food. No estimating/eyeballing or you risk overeating which equals no progress.
As far as exercise calories, many people grossly overestimate how many they're burning. Working out is great but beware of going by what the app says you can eat back because again, you can easily end up eating too many calories. If you decide to eat some back, make it about half what the app says and you should be ok.

@died4u it was not what I ate just one day but what I ate daily for many years that made me obese.
Do not sweat one day. Remember the key to failure is making everything optional.
Once we learn how to stop over eating calories be they from carbs, protein or fats is not an option but a requirement then weight loss and keeping it off for life is possible.
In my case I seem to have a defective carb gauge and never get a sense of getting full when eating them. My fat gauge works very well so all I had to do was break my cravings for carbs and make fats 80% of my total calorie source. My initial goal was pain management which worked after the first 30 days of eating fewer than <50 grams of carbs daily.
I doubt that your carb gauge is broken so read all you can about any diet you are interested in trying and stick with it religiously for 90 days and compute the results. All diets have worked for some or they would not be in a book, etc.
Learning what is leading one to over eat calories is all one needs to learn. Yes it is simple most often but hard to figure out and stop doing.

Please don't worry about your allocated carbs, fats and protein - being over or under will absolutely not effect your weight loss. If you eat at a calorie deficit, the pounds will come off. I am 'over' my carb allowance every single day and I enjoy every second of it!
Plus, I lose consistently.
I'd suggest logging every thing you eat and calories consumed. You may be eating in a healthy manor but not adding it up - which can mean you over eat without knowing. You lost weight on WW so I assume that was sustainable for you - IMO, this site is a lot more sustainable than WW but it can take some understanding and re-educating of your current habits.
As for staying on track, that is 100% down to you and how badly you want your results. I had to dig deep and find my willpower after many failed attempts but I have now lost 30lbs and have no desire to stop my healthy way of eating and living - BECAUSE it's so sustainable.

Thank you to everyone! I thought wow if I have to keep under everything I would be a wreck!! I want to loose about 30 and if I stick with it I know I will. I so appreciate the wonderful answers and support from you all.0
