Calories burned in 4 min Tabata interval?

Hi everyone, I just joined a gym and have been given program that involves 4 x 4 min Tabata session (basically HIIT) followed by 30 min free weights. I'm at a loss how to record this? I read that 20 mins of Tabata was 360 cals so if I record the hours gym session as 500cals am I being too generous? Or do I just record 300cals for the Tabata and forget the weight training???? Strength exercises don't seem to earn you any calories? I'm trying not to use my exercise cals by the way, it's just for me to keep track. Thanks :-)

If you are a beginner, you are not burning 300 calories in 20 minutes. You are also, if a beginner and in a typical class, not following real Tabata training, not for 20 minutes and able to lift weights afterwards. You are basically doing interval training, which is great for you, and can be Tabata-inspired, but do not google true Tabata calorie burns, because there is no way you are doing this, unless it is a class aimed at elite athletes trying to maximise performance. I am not sure even the average athlete would last at 20 minute Tabata protocol.0

360 in 20 mins? Very much doubt that! That's just one of the horrible myths around HIIT unfortunately.
300 cals in your 4 x 4min sessions sounds far too high.
Assuming you are doing maximal effort / rest in a 2:1 ratio in your Tabata session then perhaps log two thirds of the time as the fastest speed you can run at?
Log your strength training under the cardiovacular section - search for "Strength training (weight lifting, weight training) ".
If you are doing a significant amount tof exercise then you should be accounting for it with either TDEE method or eating back exercise calories method. Fuel your exercise to get maximum benefit from it.0 -
Thanks guys, good to know. I looked at TBEE and they recommend and additional 130 cals daily so gives me a little room to manoeuvre as I'm starving after a gym session!0
