I love this article although I must confess that it is not a question that ever kept me up at night. :)

Well the article does go on to say that the risk from eating 6 bananas is miniscule unless you have kidney disease.

If you have kidney disease I doubt it would kill you but I agree it would not be at all healthy for you. Bananas are high in potassium and people with kidney disease should avoid them or eat them in very small quantities because of this.

But for everyone else - if you really want to eat 6 bananas at once, do so.

For most people - Probably hard to do so every day and keep within your calorie allowance without displacing so many other foods that your diet becomes nutritionally unbalanced. But you could do it now and then.
Of course, same could be said of any food with a moderately high calorie content.

    * Trollingtons of the world, uniiiite * <- To be sung in a Morissey falsetto,

Well, we do know that if you eat Polar Bear liver, you'll die of Vit. A overdose. So, there's that.

Even made it to "More or Less" the BBC's statistical query programme - http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p032804x

"How many bananas will kill you?
There's a belief among some people that too many bananas will kill you. Eat too many and you will overdose on potassium and die. But how many bananas would you need to eat?"

If potassium overdose is the concern, potatoes would kill you quicker

Bananas have 358mg of potassium per 100g. Potatoes have 417mg per 100g.

I really wanna go eat 6 bananas right now, just to be contrary.

You would stand a good chance of choking.

Probably best to eat one after the other!

    6 banana splits?

Depends on how many sprinkles were used

Were any of them chocolate chips ?

    The sparkle sugar crystals?

Too many questions to resolve before a banana fatality can be attributed.

If six bananas were lethal, Freelee would be long gone.

Wow. I was half way there. Three bananas in, I had no idea I was approaching the point of no return. Good thing I switched to cottage cheese when I did.

Potatoes probably are on the items to be avoided list for people with kidney disease too then.

But, like bananas, not relevant for everyone else.

Peter Siddle, one of our Aussie cricket players eats 15-20 bananas a day!

That does seem a huge amount.

But he is a young male over 6 ft tall, with a high activity level, so I guess he can do so and still eat at an appropriate calorie level.
