There are so many vegetarian foods out there. The internet is at your fingertips. So much exploring to do as well for a new found vege! Congratulations. Has anyone considered that being vegetarian is healthier and would create a more sustainable planet... Even if each person was to eat meat once a week it would have a huge impact.

Until we all ran out of veggies to eat.

Quite sure I read an article about it... that we'd all end up starving if everyone went vegetarian.

No, if you think about the amount of land that is needed to raise one cow/animal and how many vegetables you could grow in that amount of land it's not possible to just run out of food.

I'm glad that our society has the resources to allow people to be vegetarian. I have no problem with people making that choice for themselves. However, we are an omnivorous species and my mood is severely affected if I don't have meat. Vegetable proteins do not satisfy me in the same way.

Healthier than what? How is it healthier?

I'm all for people making choices about how they want to eat, and choosing to eat a vegetarian diet may also be motivated by ethical or environmental factors... But blanket statements like "being vegetarian is healthier" aren't helpful or even factual.

Actually not all land is suited for vegetable farming. Any farmer worth their salt has had soil studies done and knows where to put their cows vs planting their crop.

    ^This

I will do the occasional "meatless monday" just to save dollars and to proactively get more vegetables in my diet but I'm not convinced that someone is automatically "healthier" simply because they never eat meat. There are so many factors that go into that including that person's level of physical activity (you can still be fat if you never leave the couch no matter how many bowls of rabbit food you eat), heredity (If Mother Nature's dealt you a bad hand genetically, you will have to work harder to stay healthy than others) and how the food is prepared (If every bowl of veggies you eat is in the middle of a veggie quiche, then that could be quite the caloric hit ;) )

I personally am a vegan and after travelling to a few not so well off countries I realised that veganism and vegetarianism is absolutely a first world luxury. While I have found veganism great for my physical health as well as for my mind it's not for everyone. And I truly don't believe it would be sustainable if the whole world turned vegan. Although I do think everyone should eat a little less meat and a few more greens. ;)
