How much water is too much water?

I drink my water out of a glass jug that's 1.9L's. Drinking one of those a day often left me feeling thirsty still so I decided, why not another one. At almost 4L's a day, I realized that I'm consuming a lot more water without really thinking about it. I realize there is a thing called too much water, which can lead to water intoxication/dilutional hyponatremia.

When what your drinking and peeing are the same thing.

Go by per colour I guess, not even a hint of colour your probably drinking too much.

You would have to drink a lot of water, way more than what you are consuming in one day, to end up with water intoxication. Your kidneys can handle outputting about 1L of water per hour. I have 2 Nalgene bottles that are 1L and fill them up before leaving for work, and I have a 20oz water bottle as well that goes into my lunchbox. Those are gone by the time I get home around 4pm, and I fill the big bottles up again once I'm home and drink them before bedtime. I also have ~32oz of coffee every day. Just don't chug your 4L at once. :P

Thanks folks! I did a bit of digging after reading this and you're right. I'd need to either be drinking all this water at once or drinking over 16L's a day.

As long as you're eating correctly/enough, water intoxication should not be a problem & you probably can't drink too much.

I have seen cases of water intoxication while in the military (symptoms appear similar to heat exhaustion) and they were all people didn't eat at all (for an extended period of time), drank a lot of water, and were physically exerting themselves.

    pale yellow = all good
    strong yellow = drink more
clear = drink a little less

I drink tons of water, i will literally stand by the tap and fill my glass and drink it 3 times before i move away. and i carry bottles with me when im out. i probly drink about 25 glasses a day (and i use a pint glass, haha) and its not that im always thirsty, its just a habbit of mine.

tbh my urine is always clear so i probly dont need this much but i have not noticed any negative affects

Go by thirst and urine colour.

The colour chart @Liftng4Lis is a great little number to give you a guide.

But clear says good hydration as one indicator, so no need to drink less. Lots of things can affect urine color.
