For years I've been toying with weights and saying I'd like to power lift one day. Well...the time has come and I've finally kicked into gear. Its kinda boring not having a serious workout partner. I depend heavily on my ipod music to get me thru. Are lift buddies a pro or a con?? I'm sure it varies but just wanted to ask..

It was more fun with a lifting buddy. Also nice having a reliable spotter. If you have some near the same strength as you, then there's good competition. If you have someone stronger than you it can be motivating. Just make sure they are serious too, or you'll be slowed down.

IMHO it is better to build a lifting routine regardless of partner and keep your inner drive, also it is important to make lifting a habit more than a target, that way you won't stop lifting throughout your life. If you tied lifting to something; gym or partner or whatever, you will lose your motivation and may stop training once that thing is missing. I prefer to train at home, I don't attend any gym, I train alone, and don't depend on anything as a motivator. I started since two years and half, and right now it turned to be a habit, something like eating and sleeping. I didn't stop training during my vacations, business trips, or whatever situation is exactly as I didn't stop eating or sleeping

I think it depends on the person. I lift alone and enjoy that. I don't like having to coordinate with or depend on anybody else. Plus I just like the peace and quiet (I don't usually have any music on) when I lift. Other people, though, really get revved up by the camaraderie of having a lifting partner.
