I'm addicted to energy drinks, been clean for 2 weeks but I feel like I need a pick me up still. I had a coffee this morning (black) and I feel like 100 bucks. I've read some articles saying it's healthy to drink a certain amount of coffee each day. I was wondering if anyone could provide me with a little more info. I hate the taste of coffee so if I'm gonna drink it it might as well be black.

good coffee is important if you drink it black. bad coffee black is bad. good coffee black is wonderful

A cup of black coffee only has a few calories (quick search shows 2) - definitely better than sugary chemical-filled energy drinks! Also agree with above, if you're going to drink it black then drink good coffee.
If you felt better after drinking coffee specifically even though you don't like it, it's the caffiene you're addicted to. Green tea et al are super for weight loss and have pretty much zero calories but they have no less caffiene, so will not help much with allieviating a caffiene addiction. (Edit: Some green teas do have a little caffiene, fruit and herbal teas have none.)
I'm not convinced that having a cup of coffee a day is "healthy", in the same way that having a glass of red wine every day is supposedly healthy according to some media, but one cup of black coffee is miles better for you than energy drinks.0 -

Stop listening to people say something is good for you because it's low in calories.
Coffee has benefits and repercussions: it has antioxidants but can ruin the lining in your stomach overtime with its acidity. Down the road (late adulthood) you may find problems with excreting bowels properly due to lots of coffee drinking.
However, if you are off energy drinks and still think you need something, 8-12 oz of black coffee a day is great-- even some great tea. Just be careful you don't abuse it like you did energy drinks- if you find yourself addicted to it, cut it out just like energy drinks.
Also, if it makes that much of a difference in energy levels, you may be experiencing adrenal fatigue (maybe). I would look this up on webmd and see if it applies to you.0 -
Try some of the herbal drinks (without the green tea) I find lemon and ginger gives me a boost in the morning, whereas blackcurrant or the red fruit teas give me a little 'sweet pickup' in the evenings.

I'm not going to claim to be an expert on the benefits or drawbacks of coffee. I certainly have at least 1-2 coffees per day. However I've looked into what happens when you quit coffee because I have a horrible time trying to get used to black coffee and I'd prefer to not have the extra cals from milk and sugar.
So the point I'm getting at is that everything I've read has said that quitting coffee (or energy drinks) completely will only effect your energy levels at first. Eventually you will feel perfectly normal again without the need for those things. Most of the people who had successfully done it and written about it said they just drink water in the mornings now.
Again -- this is all stuff I read. I tried quitting once and made it about a day before I said "F this" and made myself a cup of coffee. But I may try again eventually.0 -
2 cups daily and have no desire to quit. I adore my morning coffee.0

OP I don't think there is anything particularly good for you about coffee, just like I don't think there is anything particularly bad for you about energy drinks (in moderation). If you don't like coffee, don't force yourself to drink it. There are plenty of other beverage options, caffeinated and otherwise.

There are a lot of cool polyphenols in coffee so I wouldn't avoid it. But if you need a bunch of coffee to function when you wake up or are having headaches, that's a caffeine addiction problem.0

I stopped drinking energy drinks because it makes me sick now. I have some medical issues and I shouldn't be drinking all the sugar and the sugar free alternatives are grosser than coffee hehe0 -
Have you tried starbucks green coffee refresher? You can by the cans or the powder to add to water.0

Do you work out? Cardio + Strength.
Once you get in the groove, physical and mental energy is supplied in boatloads.
Caffeine then will be a matter of choice, not need and definitely not "addiction".
It just takes work. And time. And energy. And dedication.
Nothing in life worth doing is easy.

I'm not an expert but if you're really that exhausted, I would think a trip to the doctor would be more beneficial than trips to the coffee pot. I'm usually tired myself, I know how frustrating it can be.0

I have an unknown medical condition but it isn't what's causing me to feel tired. I have seen a specialist I'm having surgery sometime this year to find the underlying cause.0 -
