fairy bread

I made some as a giggle for morning tea at work and realised it's basically the worst food ever!
Basically white/wholemeal bread with 'butter' and sprinkles haha
I was wondering if this was just an Australian thing like Vegemite and Farmer's Union Iced Coffee and thought I'd ask
do other countries eat fairy bread??

A Dutch traditional meal is bread with butter and chocolate sprinkles. I grew up eating that quite often as my mother was an immigrant as a child from Holland to Canada following WWII.0

I know I use to eat it as a child in the southern US.0

Never had it.... though fluffernutters were big when I was little. My husband had never had one before last year.
White bread, marshmallow fluff, and peanut butter. Awesome if you are pregnant.0 -
I grew up in NY and never heard of it until I moved to Australia. I don't think it's the WORST thing ever. If you use wholemeal bread it's certainly better than a donut, lol.0

You're right its not the worst food ever haha, I was just being dramatic.
It is however refined flour, refined sugar and fat, and can easily be made 100% vegan eep!
Did they call in fairy bread in the US?0 -
Oh god, I love fairy bread!! I had it at my 21st along with cupcakes and a jumping castle. Best birthday ever!
I tend to have a triangle if I'm at a kid's party... Can't pass up the fairy bread...0 -
Ewwww...
Although we made bread, butter, coated in sugar and cinnamon as kids, I suppose that's more similar than I'd like to think. :laugh:0 -
I'd never even heard of it until I read this post! Bread and butter with sprinkles? Like those little cupcake sprinkly things? It doesn't sound appealing to me but sometimes the stuff our parents introduce us to and we think of as normal make other people cringe. I grew up eating peanut butter, pickle and mayonnaise sandwiches! Sounds so crazy but I really like them. I don't even remember the last time I had one so maybe I wouldn't like them now but I sure used to!0

At the morning tea I made them for someone else had also brought fairy bread, but instead of using butter they had used peanut butter.
It was actually really tasty and would possibly be perfect post workout food after long distance moderate intensity cardio.
I never really liked fairy bread that much as a child, but yeah on retrying it recently, especially as bread is a special occasion food for me it was really rather pleasant.0 -
When my mum went to Holland she brought back kind of super sprinkles/mini aniseed balls that you stuck to crackers with butter/margarine. I loved them and shall hunt them down if I ever go there!0
