Porridge makes me hungry

Anyone else have this problem? I can eat anywhere between 50 to 100 grams of store brand unsweetened oats with a couple of tablespoons of peanut butter and I'll be hungry pretty much straight away as if I haven't eaten at all. This is driving me crazy, I really like porridge with PB, but it seems to be doing me more harm than good.

Nope. Last time we went on vacation, the hotel provided continental breakfast and I had a bowl of hot oatmeal with blueberries mixed in it before we went to the amusement park. Ate it around 9:00am. Didn't eat anything else until 9:00pm. Didn't get hungry at any point throughout that.0

Add some more protein -- bacon and eggs, Greek yogurt . . .0

Yeah, It doesnt stay with me unless it ends up being a 500 calorie bowl with lots of protein powder, pb and fruit. I only really eat it pre workout if I know I'm gonna work out in an hour or two, or I'll eat it before bed as dessert. If I need something to keep me full for a long time, I'll eat something savoury, omelette, salad, sandwich or something0

If you try it overnight oatmeal, add a tablespoon of chia seeds and 1/2 greek yogurt in addition to milk and some fruit or nuts or pb. That lasts!0

Yes, I love oatmeal but eat it very rarely. I'll be hungry again in a half-hour. My husband is the same way. I just add a little sugar to mine; he eats his with peanut butter. I have no idea why- it seems like other people actually consider oatmeal to be a filling meal.0

that doesn't sound like a whole lot calorie wise...so yeah...i'd probably still be hungry too.0

So you don't eat it at all? I'm wondering if I should just ditch it, I guess I can only answer that myself. But keen to see if others have turned their back on it or managed to make it work somehow.0 -

I guess some people 'burn' their way through certain food quicker than others.0 -
I LOVE porridge for breakfast - my favourite is peanut butter and chocolate drops, but it doesn't keep me full at all - a couple of hours max, so usually I have fat free greek yoghurt with granola for breakfast or just cereal.0

Instead of the peanut butter, try almonds or pistachios, and fresh fruit with the oatmeal. Another thing you can do is mix in the white of an egg to boost the protein. They take longer to break down in the stomach and provide a feeling of fullness longer. Other than that, if it isn't working for you move to something new!0

Happens to me too. Like I didn't even eat anything...I stopped eating it and upped my protein. Salads do this to me as well unless I eat it with some kind of protein. Then I get super full!0

Eating a carb based breakfast makes me hungry. A protein breakfast does not
So I had an 8 ounce steak this morning. Steel cut oats are a great 3:00 snack before 5:30 gym trip

I eat it every day and am hungry two hours later, but I eat every two hours. I always use large flake oats (not the quick oats) and soak them overnight, drain and add water and cook with some cinnamon, top with fruit and 1/2 a scoop of protein powder and almond milk. Soaking the oats makes the oats more creamy...like they've been cooked in a crock pot. The fibre is good with oats so I like having them every day for breakfast.0

Got to ask, is that 50 or 100g cooked or raw? Because oatmeal on its own doesn't fill me up much, but 100g dry is a pretty huge amount, and with 2 tablespoons of PB it should be pretty filling. I usually just use one serving (40g). More than that and I'd be really bloated I think (I can't do any impact exercise after eating oatmeal already or it makes me sick).
You could try to add some protein powder though (chocolate. So yummy with PB in oatmeal), or yeah, find something else. I can't really comment on how long it fills you up though because for me the same breakfast that kept me full 4 hours one day might keep me full 1 hour the next, so...0 -

I love 27 g of uncooked rolled oats as part of a bedtime snack, but eggs are a better breakfast for me.

Oats just don't work for me, either. 120 grams, uncooked, might hold me for an hour. That's a pretty low return on 450 calories.0

100g raw. I love porridge and peanut butter, but it seems to be no good for me. Pity.0 -
My usual breakfast is a vegetable omelet, but when I have oats (44 g dry) with protein powder and berries plus some vegetables on the side (I just have a personal desire to eat vegetables with my breakfast), it comes to about the same calories and is as filling (easily keeps me full 'til lunch) as my normal breakfast. For me the key difference is adding more protein.0

That many carbs that early makes me tired. Try something different. Maybe some eggs and a 4 ounce steak?0

I have been having oatmeal with a few raisins and walnuts and cinnamon on top with a little skim milk and I have been doing fine with that. Oh, and a big cup of hot tea.0

I do okay with my cold oats concoction. The days where I have to be quick and microwave scrambled eggs on the other hand, leave me pretty hungry.0

I eat them almost every morning at around 6am - I do 50g rolled outs (the big ones, not porridge oats), some cinamon, almond milk and 25-30g protein powder and then about 150g fruit - like berries or apples or whatever. It keeps me going until about 9.30 am then I start getting peckish and by 10-10.30 I am ready for my first lunch anyway, so it works out OK. I don't soak overnight - I cook the oats with almond milk and cinamon - bring to the boil only - then pour over the powder, stir it all in, then chuck the fruit on top. yum.0

Only a double serving will do with fruit and nuts. But in general, every meal under 500-600 calories makes me hungry.0
