Feeling rather depressed by my weight gain over the past two years after having great success with Myfitnesspal 2 years ago. Lots has happened. Lots of excuses. Injured back, my dad died, my son had seizures. But truth is I just ate too much and exercised too little. I let myself go. Today I am back into it with a new pair of runners and a Fitbit.

Any tips for not dwelling on the past and the damage I have done in 2 years? I am kicking myself.

    Yesterday doesn't matter.

If you don't move forward, things will get worse - not better.

Congrats on coming back... now go out there and kick some butt.

Today I am back into it with a new pair of runners and a Fitbit.

Make some friends in the Fitbit Users group and start doing Fitbit challenges. They're great motivation—and fun: http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/group/1290-fitbit-users

Also, make a resolution to eliminate negative self-talk. Treat yourself at least as kindly as you would treat an MFP friend. It's really hard at first, but the more you do it the better you get at it—like exercise.

Please listen to your body—especially with a bad back. Exercise for fitness; log to lose weight. Logging is simple, but it ain't easy. Logging works.

Everyone has their vices, this is one of yours. No one is perfect and you need to give yourself a break. You will gain nothing by looking back and shaming yourself. From now on, every single day is a new opportunity for improvement.

I can't say I have any tips. All I can say is that I have been there and I am happy that I remembered that MFP helped me lose weight years ago. I came back and surpassed what I did the last time. Just know you have done it before and you can do it again. Feel free to add me as a friend on here and on fitbit - https://www.fitbit.com/user/326NFV
