I've been told to up my calories for breastfeeding but I also want to lose weight and seem to be stuck... Even though I do light activity, I have a 4 week old and would like to kickstart weight loss if anyone knows any tips

If you are breastfeeding it isn't recommended cutting any calories before your milk supply is established, at least 2 months.

After that I set my calorie intake to maintainance and ate back some of my exercise calories and let the breastfeeding create the deficit. When we introduced solids, I switched my goal to 1/2lb lose per week, so -250, to make up for the lower demand.

Thank you so much, I have breastfed my other two boys but quit pretty early because of inexperience and I already can't wait to use preworkout again... But my goal is to make it 6 months breastfeeding and on a healthy diet. I appreciate the advice

Hi - I had a plan to feed for 3 months with my lo who is now 7 months. I managed 4 months in the end and although in that time tried hard to lose weight through calorie restriction and exercise the weight did not budge until after I stopped breastfeeding :( I guess some women are made this way and hold onto the extra fat while feeding

Eat as you would to maintain weight, not accounting at all for breastfeeding. See what happens after a few weeks. If you are losing too fast, up your calories a bit. If you are not losing at all, start cutting down. Unless you go on a very low calorie diet, your supply will not be affected, do not worry. Remember to stay hydrated though.
