I don't understand...

I've been sticking with my diet, eating 1200-1400 calories a day of healthy low fat low carb food, and getting good exercise almost every day, but... I seem to have gained 7 lbs in this first week of my diet. I'm not expecting progress in just a week, but gaining a huge amount? That doesn't make sense to me. What am I doing wrong?

perhaps you are miscounting something. are you using a food scale?
  • Yikes!

Make sure you are drinking plenty of water (at least 64 ounces per day). Also, make sure you measure out everything using a food scale. I would rely on the food scale for several months before getting comfortable estimating portion sizes.

Something is definitely not right. A person burns more than 1200-1400 calories during regular everyday activity. With exercise, you should have lost something the first week. Be sure you are checking your portions and servings correctly and logging EVERYTHING.

Hang in there...it took 4 weeks for my body to turn lose of one pound! According to what I read, my body needed to reset its metabolism. Now I’m seeing consistent weight loss.

If you are absolutely sure of the calories going in and going out and you still haven’t seen a loss after 4 weeks, I would consult a doctor.

    Good luck to you.

    thanks everyone for the replys..
    Nope, I'm not pregnant.
I measure everything and use a scale. I'm sure I'm not missing calories, although I seem to only drink about three glasses of water a day. Hopefully things pick up soon :S
    I guess maybe it's just a transition?

It could be something as simple as your scale - for you, not your food. Make sure you're using the same one and make sure, if there are batteries involved, that they're charged and not dying. I'm hoping that's what it is for you because it's a lot easier to figure out

hmm. I'm using an analogue scale, but I moved to a new apartment last weekend and perhaps it got damaged in transit. I'll check it out. Thanks

Are you eating a lot of added sugar or sodium? Not enough fruits or veggies? Sorry for the triple post. Darn phone!!

nope, i've been eating really healthy.
Turns out my scale isn't working right, and I've actually lost a few lbs. Phew!

I was so happy to read this! I couldn't think of anything that would account for a 7 lbs weight gain on that diet and was pretty worried!
