This might be old news to a lot of you but I just stumbled across this and figured it was at least worthwhile for us that are new to the site. I can vouch for how accurate or how true the statements are, but it does appear all over the internet on a number of different sites, so perhaps there's some validity to it.
This is a list of negative calorie foods. That means that when you eat these foods raw or in some cases slightly cooked with nothing on them your body burns more calories digesting and processing them than what is in the actual food itself.
Fruits
apple
cranberries
grapefruit
lemon
mango
orange
pineapple
raspberries
strawberries
tangerine
Vegetables
asparagus
beet
broccoli
cabbage (green)
carrot
cauliflower
celery
Chile peppers (hot)
cucumber
dandelion
endive
garden cress
garlic
green beans
lettuce
onion
papaya
radishes
spinach
turnip

Thanks for the reminder...eat more fruits and vegies0

I'd heard this before about celery...but never soo many foods before. Though I have to admit I've always thought of ALL raw fruits and veggies as 'free' foods. You can/should eat as much of them as often as you like.....I suppose you wouldn't want to go insane and eat a whole bushel of cherries...but I think you understand what I mean.0

This information is false and dangerous. You cannot eat the above foods in unlimited amounts and not gain weight. All foods contain calories, therefore they aren't "free" in the sense that they won't affect weight gain or weight loss.0

I could not agree with this more.0 -

I third this. I know celery belongs on this list, but apples certainly do not. A small apple has at least 50 calories and takes less than 5 minutes to eat. You are not going to burn 50+ calories sitting on your butt and chewing for 5 minutes. It takes me 15 minutes of walking at 3.5 MPH to burn that many calories.0 -

Agree. Negative calorie foods are a myth.0 -
pineapples (an others) are full of sugar, I am sure they contain more calories than you burn while digesting.
Log all your food people, every calories adds up, and digestion is factored in to your daily caloric intake, for calories burned from normal daily activity.0 -

Me too! I spoke to a Registered Dietitian about this and she said the same thing. This is all hocus pocus and NOT true....0 -

Well, like I said, I can't vouch for the validity of this information...oh wait, I made a typo and said I can vouch for it. I'm not a dietician or a doctor, I just stumbled across this info on the internet and thought I'd pass it on. Thanks for setting the record straight.0 -
Negative calories works for me!!...thank you
P.S. I thought papaya was a fruit?....but then again tomatoes are a fruit..lol0 -
um...everything in moderation for sure...that's just common sense...0

Oops! Edit: Just saw that other posters don't believe it either. Nevermind, agree!0 -
What about candy bars and cheeseburgers?
if only those were negative calories! lol0 -

Coffee, black... I drink about 6-8 cups of it per day.0

Big'ole pile of BS, there is no such thing. They are all good foods you should eat, but these are not even close to being - cal foods. Protein has a higher thermic effect than carbs and would be much closer to a -cal food if there was any such thing.0
