Green smoothie recipes please :)
Hi there,
I want to start adding some green smoothie's into my day... does anyone have any recipes or sites/books they use?
I've done some google searches and got some good ones but would like to hear from some people that have green smoothies or have done a detox with them for some recommendations
Thanks!

I eat this smoothie for breakfast everyday, and it has 6 portions of fruits and veggies It contains 325 calories.
-1 large handful of spinach
-4 large leaves of lettuce (any kind, but I love romaine)
-1/2 to a whole cucumber, depending on how used you are to the taste
-1 apple
-1/2 cup strawberries, frozen or fresh
-2 cups pineaple
-Water for desired texture0 -
My favorite is-
2 cups baby spinach
0.5-1 cup skim milk
1 tbsp peanut butter
1 frozen banana
It's SO delicious.0 -
My green smoothie is usually
2 cups of spinach / baby spinach / kale.
1/2 cup frozen fruit - dole forest medley mix ( pine, peach, mango, straw berrie ) or frozen berries ( blueberries, blackberries, raspberry)
scoop of vanilla whey protein powder
some water for consistency0 -
add me and take a look at my diary - I have one 5 to 6 days a week.
Today's was delicious...
I freeze everything in ziploc bags and just choose my combo in the morning...
Kale
Pear
Avocado
Mixed berries
Whey protein powder
1 tsp of Now Superseeds (flax, chia, hemp)
Water
Other liquid options for me are
Danon drinkable yogurt (no sugar added - 5 carbs)
Almond milk
Coconut Milk
I add Benefiber every day - and will switch out the whey protein for PB2 or PB2 chocolate sometimes...
I used to have a Nutribullet - but it died after 6 months - so I have the Ninja pro now with the individual cups...
LOVE IT!0 -
Ah thanks so much! These all sound delicious0

Don't use whey powder, it holds you back. Unless you're doing a lot of resistance, then just a scoop a day. And try switching around your greens and fruits. Thats how you lose the weight. Don't forget to include chia and flax seeds also!0
-
Thanks! yeah I've been reading a lot of good things about chia seeds and it is on y shopping list for tomorrow0

How does the Whey powder hold you back? I usually add it to mine also but am interested to know why maybe I shouldn't...0 -
Here's my go-to green smoothie, kinda high in sugar, but gives me energy for late-morning runs.
1/2 cup green grapes
1/2 cup pineapple tidbits (fresh, frozen, or canned)
1 cup kale or spinach
1/2 banana
1/2 cup ice
1/2 cup water
**optional-I add either 1 tablespoon ground flax seeds or chia seeds0 -
I lke this smoothie recipe you posted do you know about how many calories that is???0
-
My morning smoothie typically consists of:
42 g baby spinach
42 g romaine
juice from two lemon wedges
40g Dole frozen strawberries
28 g kale
100g cucumber
127 g gala apple
1 tbs chia seeds
Blend all in my Vitamix with 3/4 - 1 Cup of water. 201 calories
I specify the Vitamix because I get a much better (liquified) result than with my old Hamilton Beach.0 -
I have one almost everyday for breakfast, look at my diary. I do the standard half veggies or leaves, half fruit plus some seeds. I have a nutribullet and I love it. Each day tastes different.
I fill the large container for a smoothie that I split into two that me and my partner share for breakfast.
I do use leaves, spinach, lettuce, pak choi etc. I tried kale and I'm not fond of that. I generally use whatever I have in the fridge. If the fridge is bare I keep frozen berries and fruit so I always can make a smoothie. I don't add any dairy or whey powder. I vary my seeds (chia, linseeds, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, almonds, cashews, Brazils). Chia can make my bowel a bit loose. I've also added chili, cinnamon or ginger. Once I made a smoothie that was too many veggies and I (ahem) had to rescue it with cocoa powder (yum).
This past two weeks I've been gifted home grown beets and apples so we've had a liver support themed smoothie, which is more due to availability of beet rather than the need to detox. I like the beet. It adds fibre and a little sweetness and blends to a nice texture. Cucumber is also excellent for being low in cals and giving a good blended texture.
1 raw beet (peeled and topped)
Half a carrot
1 large tart apple (cored, skin left on)
1 lime (flesh only)
Half an avocado(flesh only)
A few strawberries
2 tablespoons of pumpkin seeds
Blend with about 100ml fruit juice and top up with water.0 -
I have an e book called "10 Day Green Smoothie Cleanse" written by J. J. Smith. It has tons of recipes to use during the cleanse and after the cleanse. There are some great ones for weight loss as well.0

-2 cups spinach
-1 cup kale
-1 1/2 - 2cups coconut water
-1/2 banana
-1/2 cup pineapple
-ice
-1 cup spinach
-1 whole banana
-1.5-2 cups almond milk
-1 cup frozen berries
-ice
-2 cups kale
-1 banana
-1 apple
-coconut water
-ice
You can literally throw anything you think is good with some dark greens and it will taste good0 -
I think my favourite one that I make has 1 cup of spinach, 1 cup of kale, 1/2 cup of cauliflower, 1/2 cup of frozen mango and 1/2 a peach with a little bit of apple juice. I tend to freeze the cauliflower and peach as well because I like a thicker, cold texture. It comes out to 167 cals and only 13g of sugar.
I also have a habit of just adding greens to any "normal" smoothie I would make. For example, I had a strawberry and banana smoothie today, but added a cup of spinach.0 -
Strawberry Banana Protein Smoothie
1 scoop vanilla protein powder
1 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk
1/2 cup water
1/2 frozen banana
1 cup frozen strawberries
1 handful spinach leaves
Chocolate Peanut Butter Protein Smoothie
1 scoop vanilla protein powder
1 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk
1/2 cup water
1/2 frozen banana
1 T PB2 (or regular peanut butter)
1 T unsweetened cocoa powder
1 handful spinach leaves0 -
Cucumber juice
celery juice
spinach
kale
avocado
my all time favorite0 -
I've been making smoothies for breakfast lately and have made:
Peanut butter banana
1/2 banana
2 Tbsp. PB2
1 cup spinach
1 cup kefir
1 Tbsp. chia seeds
1 Tbsp. honey (optional depending on your sweetness level)
Ice
Strawberry kiwi
5-6 strawberries
1 kiwi
1 cup spinach
1 cup kefir
1 Tbsp. chia seeds
1 Tbsp. honey (optional)
Ice
Basically I just adjust the fruits to whatever I think would be good together (mango/strawberry, blueberry/pomegranate, peach/mango) and keep the spinach, kefir, chia seeds, honey and ice as the constants. You really just have to adjust to your taste level.0 -
One more....
Mango Pineapple Protein Smoothie
1 scoop vanilla protein powder
1 cup unsweetened vanilla almond (or coconut) milk
1/2 cup water
1/2 frozen banana
1/2 cup frozen pineapple chunks
1/2 cup frozen mango chunks
1 handful spinach leaves0 -
Here's our go to green smoothie recipe:
1 hass avocado
2 cups spinach, or kale, or mixed greens (my favorite(
3 cups almond milk, unsweetened
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 tbsp. cinnamon
This makes about 40 oz so change the amounts as you need. We used to add about 2 cups of blueberries to this as well. We would blend those in batches, pouring out half of the original mix then putting half the berries in each green mixture. Then we realized how much sugar the berries were adding, so FOR US (I;m not saying anyone else should do this, just giving my experience) we decided to go without fruit. I didn't think I'd like it without the fruit but the cinnamon gives it a nutty flavor that's awesome. It doesn't have a huge amount of protein so you could always add nut/seed butter if you wanted to. We have also added cocoa powder, coconut milk, or creamed coconut. Here's to our health!0 -
Ah wow thanks for all of these! Started a smoothie recipe book
If anyone is reading these and wanting some more recipes, I'm using this one at the moment:
-2 cups spinach
-Half cup cucumber
-Half lemon juiced
-3/4 cup water
-1 cup strawberries
-A few raspberries
-1 apple
-1 banana
-1 tablespoon chia seeds.
I honestly can't sing these smoothies praises enough - I've noticed a HUGE difference in the way my body is working and my skin has massively improved as well... everything just feels clean and healthy0 -

Cherry, almond, and chocolate. Use a little almond milk, some fresh or frozen pitted cherries along with cacao, and your basic smoothie ingredients to make a fortifying drink that tastes like a dessert.
Chocolate, banana, and strawberry. With these three ingredients, plus a little honey or stevia and some water or almond milk, you will have a smoothie that tastes like a banana split.
Chocolate and cayenne. If you are feeling adventurous try this unorthodox combination. Make a simple chocolate smoothie with cacao and add a dash of spicy cayenne pepper.

I am curious as well about the whey powder holding you back. Please respond with what you mean.0
