Ate too much- Advice

so last week I went over my calories by about 700. Cheesecake is not my friend. Anyway, I usually make up for what I've gone over pretty easily but this time has been really hard. I've been trying for a whole week but I get hungry. I don't know. I have this no excuses thing because I didn't eat healthily so I'm thinking it's my food choices and I'm gonna try again tomorrow but I don't know if I fail tomorrow should I just move on?

Keep calm and carry on. :) 700 is nothing. I went over by more than 1,000 on Labor Day, two days later, went out to eat and ate too much, and I still have managed to lose since then. One day does not make a failure. Not even two or a week, a month or a year. Life moves on no matter what you do, so just do your best.

You're gonna have slips. Sometimes you have ones where it's harder to offset the damage. It's not like it's permanent though. Take a deep breath and just consider it a reset. Eat what cals you're supposed to for the day. It's just one encounter with our delicious cheesecake friend, not eating the entirety of what the cheesecake factory has on hand. (Though could you imagine? Hngh...)

It's not even 2 days of deficit... not a big deal at all. Log it and move on.

As you said that was last week. Get back on track and try again. Don't beat yourself up about it. We went away for a weekend and ate at breakfast, dinner and brunch buffets. Oh my goodness I felt terrible , but Monday morning just started again with MFP and am back on track. My lesson - no buffets, order from the menu. Before I started this program I used to go to bed at night thinking I need to lose weight after all I was 197 lbs. and after many months I just made up my mind - no more. I feel so much better and so will you. Keep on trying!

Ya, I would be ravenous if my carb to protein ratio looked liked yours. I see you're not a vegetarian - you could simply try eating more meat and less carbs and see if that reduces your appetite by keeping you fuller longer.

700 calories is 1/5 of a pound, give or take. It's nothing in the big scheme of things. Forget it and move on. I'm not sure I understand the "no excuses" part of your post about food choices.

It's not like you were 700 over maintenance (and even if you were, I wouldn't worry about that either). You were 700 over your deficit goal. That's within the margin of error for food packaging. I wouldn't blink twice over this.

Keep calm and carry on. One day of over indulgence will not ruin your efforts. Your weight is determined by your long-term pattern of habits. Just like one day of crash dieting doesn't cause every pound to drop off, one day of over indulgence won't make you gain everything back. Focus on your long term habits and goals. We all have birthdays, vacations, celebrations, etc. that cause us to slip up once in while. One of the keys to success, in my opinion, is to be able to take those moments for what they are - moments in time - enjoy them and then get right back into the groove as soon as that particular meal or day is over, without guilt!

To quote a Frozen song - "Let it go.....let it go...." Keep calm and carry on. As humans, we stumble. Guaranteed. Accept it as part of humanity and hit the restart button.

Anytime I eat to much I follow the same rule of thumb...I try to avoid eating to much the next time. This can be done a few ways. My go to method is I do not use my hands to pick food up which therefore cause my mouth to not open in order to chew the food!!! The other thing I do is just walk around pretending to chew. It looks funny sure...like you are talking to people that aren't there...but here is the thing...you are winning the battle on eating to much!!!!

The only reasonable thing to do is to let it go. Start over the next day with your regular calorie allotment and stop worrying. If you feel terrible right afterwards go for a long walk or hit the gym. It happens to everyone, I know I get irritated with myself, I just try and remember the trigger and avoid it next time.

Thanks, you've all made really good points. By the "no excuses" thing I meant that I've made up surpluses before so I should be able to and I feel like I'm letting myself down. But to be honest, I did try. I know my food choices have actually been way worse than normal since trying to make up for it. I think it's the whole "I can't have it so I do" mindset. Also, that time of the month isn't helping at all. I'm gonna just move on. You're all right. I'm probably not gonna even remember in a couple of months time.

Change your mindset. You can have whatever you want... just in moderation.

I have bad days too though, but I just move on. But yeah if you eat more protein, fiber, and fat, you'll be less hungry and less likely to eat too much.

You are hungry?? Drink a glass of water and check back in about 15 - 20 minutes...could be dehydration. If you are still hungry.....scramble up some egg whites!! That will give you some protein without breaking the out the junk food!

Forget about it and move on :)

You haven't sabotaged yourself - you literally just behaved like a human being and indulged a little. Log it and wake up to a fresh set of calories the next day. These things happen and it's totally okay!
