Eating for being happy and upset for being fat

I cannot get rid of this circle. If I'm upset I eat a lot (mostly sugar, chocolat etc) and I will upset again because of being fat. The main thing that makes me happy is food, but being fat make me feel ugly. I don't like myself in photographs, I just want to see my face in photographs not my body... I've been gaining weight since I was 16-17 now I'm 25 (26 at october) and according to BMI I'm obese. I gained nearly 30-35 kgs (66-77 lbs) and I'm always stranger to my body. It always changes... By the way I often go doctor and check myself I just have pcos and insuline resistance (but last two doctors didn't tell me to use metformin). I often try diet and sometimes to exercise but nothing changes. I'm sick of myself. I'll have a breakfast now, I know I'll eat chocolate and jam again, I'll get many calories and carbs... By the way I'm vegetarian, I thought that if I changed my eating habit to being vegetarian I can change my eating habit to lose weight. But i can't do. I know lots of things to lose weight, but knowing changes nothing. I cannot change my habits.

  • Being vegetarian didn't stop me getting to 149kg. And you're describing the way I was 4 years ago - chocolate, carbs and more sugar.

What changed was I decided that I *would* succeed in changing my health. I'm sure you know that if you don't change something then you'll likely develop Type 2 diabetes, then you'll need medication... the only one who can change things around is you. It won't be easy. For me, I decided that the only way I would succeed was by eating everything in moderation. So that's what I did. I ate a bit less, tracked everything and moved a bit more. I wish I'd have done it well before I got to 149kg but I didn't. I've now lost 70kg and been maintaining for a year.

So you can either keep going as you are and let time pass as you get heavier, or you can suck it up and decide that you will change. It's up to you, but I bet that a year from now you'll wish you tried harder today.

Thanks for the attention, I really admire your experience. Actually health and getting older really matters to me. I want to be healthy, fit, muscular and active all the time. I played volleyball and soccer when i was teen. I love sports. But I cannot, it makes no sense I know. I stucked. I feel like I need a magic wand or something...

I was at my heaviest when I was vegetarian. I was all about the cheese baked potatoes, cheese pizza, breaded quorn burgers, chips/ fries, bread, rice pasta etc. All very calorie dense items and not especially filling. I lost weight by ditching the veggie options- carby stuff just makes me want more- and adding the meat back in. I eat mostly paleo as I'm not overly keen on meat- so I'm not tempted to overeat it.

Before deciding to lose weight I would buy chocolate every day and eat till I did'nt want anymore. The 1lbs went on one lb per week. I still sort of miss not being able to do that but I'm much more happy being thin. Also- another tip is keep an eye on pms and ovulation times and either steel your will during those times or do some extra exercise to make up for any additional calories. Finally, it gets better over time- your tastes will change and you wont want that stuff as much. Good luck.

Take a deep breath. Now, who's buying the groceries? make a new list, work on planning some meals and have "good" snacks for binges handy. LOG IT ALL NO MATTER WHAT!!!! Now, throw out the junk. Yes I said throw away food. Do it before you think about it. If it hasn't been opened give it away. You can do this!!!

I won't eat enough good carbs... I should eat more green veggies and beans. Sometimes I just eat fruit for snacks, but when I'm upset I believe that only chocolate makes me feel better. I should log I know, it's hard to admit that I eat a lot of crap...
    Thanks to everybody.

Try low calorie fat free hot chocolate or pudding cups for the chocolate craving. Eat or drink it very slow. And I agree with the posters above, throw out or give away the junk and just don't have it in the house. Good luck, after a week or two without it you aren't going to want it as much, I promise!

I'm going to play the tough love approach because what the others have said are true, but there's still one huge issue that hasn't been addressed. You are allowing yourself to be defeated before you even begIn. Do you think anyone with success hasn't been faced with terrible cravings? That they don't give into them? Hell, I just ate a doughnut that I didn't need. Now I feel guilty, but the one thing you will need to learn before you reach any form of success is to log it and move on. You already admitted to not logging out of embarrassment, but that's not how this works. You may be lying to your diary, but not yourself. People here are providing really great advice, so you have two choices. Use the advice and accept slip ups happen and move on, or continue on the path you're on which could soon bring a whole world of health issues and expenses. Only you can make that conscious choice and stick to it.
