Reincorporating Meat

I've been vegetarian for nine or ten years, and I switched to vegetarian paleo a little while ago, which has been really great for me, but I don't think I'm getting enough protein. I'd like to work meat back into my diet...anyone have any advice on doing it healthily? All of my attempts so far have just led to an upset stomach.

Fish/seafood was a good transition for me when transitioning from a vegan. Try emulsifying with avocado or EVOO0

I personally was advised to reincorporate fish, chicken, and low lactose dairy into my diet by my doctor, because I was having some serious flare ups of my pre-existing stomach problems.
I could have done it with just eggs and dairy products, but I failed to see how eating so much dairy/eggs was any better for the animals than eating meat.

OP- try simply prepared fish, and chicken. Chicken soup, baked tilapia, things like that.0

Try minced or ground and added to a stew or chili.0

My wife started with BLTs. She then moved on to white fish and meat. She then moved on to the harder stuff0

Start with leaner meats and fish, small amounts. Build slowly. If nothing else, it'll limit your discomfort.
Be persistent and patient. I followed an ill-conceived diet to improve athletic performance when I was a teen that left me with grilled boneless, skinless chicken breast as pretty much my primary meat source. When I was done with competition, it took me over a year before I could eat beef without significant intestinal problems.0 -

I admire and support you vegans. While I have the soul of a vegan, I have the body of an omnivore. My compromise is to buy meat and dairy from brands that do not use factory-farming practices.

Try smaller portions.
I cannot eat larger portions of meat. It just sits in there like a rock. Here was a thread a while back where people were disagreeing over whether 150g of chicken is a lot. It is to me! Way too much at one sitting for me. I've learned that I do much better when I eat smaller portions. Maybe that would help you, too. Try and see.
I prefer to get most of my protein from sources other than meat. But meat is a great source of protein and red meat is an excellent source of iron.0 -
Thanks for all the advice, everyone! My university cafeteria - where I eat far, far too often - usually has plain grilled chicken available, so I'll start with that and see how it goes. I feel like the problems I had before might have been because I was eating meat with a lot of salt and fat added, since I was worried I wouldn't be able to stand the taste otherwise.0

Beans, lentils, vegan protein powder. You don't need to start eating dead lumps of meat to get more protein.0
