25 (from MA) and ready for a real change in my life

I'm looking to meet some other health conscious people who are really trying to better their life. My story about my journey so far is below. It's a little lengthy but I figured I'd share just incase someone else needs to see that it's really possible to start trying to be healthier regardless of your current weight
So I have been very overweight (for my age) since I was about 10, I am now 25. Being overweight is an issue that unfortunately was common in my family due to a multitude of factors. I moved away from home when I was 18 and continued those same bad eating habits and was not very active (but did have an active job where I was standing and moving around all day, which helped a lot). When I was 22 I decided I wanted to try and lose weight for the first time in my life. I was on a pre-packaged meal plan called Medifast and I was able to lose 115 pounds in 10 months. Losing that much weight that quickly is not only unsafe but it is also a totally mind and (personal) world altering process. The very different attention from people that I was all of a sudden having to deal with was scary at many points. I wasn't really prepared to lose that much weight that quickly and the very quick shift was just a lot to deal with. Over the next year I unfortunately gained about 135 pounds and topped out at 335. I stayed around that weight for about 1 year before I was willing to admit that I have an issue and that I need help getting ready to lose literally at least half of my body weight. I started seeing an eating disorder/behavioral counselor and she has been very helpful over the last year. About a month ago I started participating in a medical weight loss program through my work (I work for a hospital corporation). So far I'm down 5 pounds and thankfully I was able to take many blood tests to ensure that I don't have any health related issues that will slow down my progress. I am in perfect health (with the exception of my weight) so I want to get the ball rolling on my weight loss now before the weight related issues start happening.

A few pounds or 150 pounds, none of it is easy and it all comes down to the same thing in the end. Maintaining that goal weight is the real trial for anyone trying to lose weight and be healthier. I'd love to be friends and if you need to talk feel free to send a message my way0

Even though I don't know you. I am proud of you! Losing any amount of weight is hard. I find that people who have never done it will never understand.0

Aww thank you!!! And I think you're right, even someone with the most sincere of intentions can't fully understand what it's like to be in this sort of situation.0

@Watch_Me_Shine416 , it'll definitely be nice to have someone on my newsfeed who is knows what it's like to have so much to lose. Going to friend you now!
@sgarrison89, gaining muscle is one of the things I dream about doing lol. I used to be a gym person (5-6 days a week for 2 hours) but when I stopped going it was just beyond difficult to start again. I've gone a few times lately and loved each trip so I'm hopeful that it can be a regular thing again Definitely going to add you now!0 -
Hi there, congratulations on your progress so far. Every pound lost is a success in my opinion, but I agree with you that it needs to be done in a healthy way. I'm also 25 and I need to lose about 40-50 pounds to be at a healthy weight. I have struggled with staying on track with diet and exercise, but I have recently started back on MFP to try again. This time I plan on getting more involved in chatting with other people that have similar goals as mine. I feel that it helps add motivation and encouragement knowing there are so many people out there going through a similar struggle. Best of luck to you!0

@mrshoward1116, thank you so much! And I completely agree, every pound lost is a victory for sure. I think that being on MFP for both food/exercise tracking AND social support will make a difference and hopefully I'll be able to stick to it0
