Hey guys I just joined I'm trying to gain weight as I have struggled to do so for the past two years .
I know you can't selectively reduce fat from an area so I am wondering if you can selectively gain weight in particular areas. With a combination of weight training and gaining weight by eating the right food. (I hope that make sense )
Does anyone have any knowledge on this or any tips for gaining weight without it all going on your stomach ? Or is this just wishful thinking

You can target muscle mass by working the appropriate muscles. You can gain weight by eating at a calorie surplus. You will always gain at least some fat when you gain muscle (the effect of which you can minimize by gaining weight while doing progressive resistance, and then cutting, then repeating). You will be limited by genetics; it's common to see men complaining about being unable to grow their calves no matter how hard they work them; some people have them and some don't.
Eating at an appropriate calorie level and using an effective training program can help you achieve YOUR best body. You may not look like what you envision your ideal to be, but you can strive to be the best you you can be.0 -
Yes. While I've been doing full body workouts I've tried to add mass to my legs by doing accessory leg work, and it's worked.0

You can add muscle, by eating in a surplus and lifting weights...
But with a surplus will come weight in other areas, mostly mid-section (abs, love handles, lower back), and since you are female, the thighs.
Just the way the human body has evolved...
So of the more lucky/genetically blessed among us will not put a lot of weight on in those areas.....but for the rest of us, we have to deal with it as the body sees fit.0 -
where are you looking to gain weight? - Eastcoast Jim0

not unless you know how to change your genetic code...
fat is going to come onto you where it wants to, not where you want.
you can minimize this by eating in a 250 calorie surplus for about .5 pound a week gain.0 -
I think it would help if you are more specific about your goal.
However, if you want to gain muscle mass you need to lift weights while in a calorie surplus. When you are in a calorie surplus you will gain both muscle and fat. The fat will most like deposit in the stomach and thigh areas first, but that's all dependent on your genetics.0 -

Just work your legs, and adjust your calories accordingly.
IMO -- I say do whole body, but hey, whatever you want.0 -
Like the others said, you can add muscle somewhat selectively but fat gain will go where it goes.
If you want to gain mostly in the lower body, Strong Curves has a lower body only program (Gorgeous Glutes) which is what I ran during my bulk (I added my own upper body but in your case you don't have to).0 -

I would say pick a routine that centers around squats and deadlifts. You can throw in some lunges as well. Lift heavy as well as a lot of volume. If you really want to minimize fat gain then be in a slight surplus. However, this may hinder your muscle gains as well.0 -
Lo
Haha that's a bit extreme ..i don't want to look like that hahaha0 -
Good luck with whatever you decide....
You can influence where your body adds/develops muscle.
Not where it stores fat.....
But you should do full body work, IMO.0
