Question about weighing yourself

So bare with me as this might be lengthy. In the beginning of August before we left for our 10 day Florida vacation, I was at about 132-133 lbs. I maintained this weight from about May until then give or take a few lbs. When we got back I waited awhile to weigh myself and I figured I may have gained 1-3 lbs at MOST. The year before we went on the same vacation and I barely worked out and I ate and drank whatever/whenever, this year I actually went to the gym for 45 minutes (6 days out of our vacation). When I finally did weigh myself I was about 134ish. Pretty normal if you ask me. I was happy and I may have ate a little worse then I should have when we came back for those first couple of weeks but nothing crazy. (a bag of chips after work a few days a week, fast food for a couple meals etc.) I've eaten this way before especially at my old job last year and I continued to maintain my weight (I used to eat way more junk food). Now about two weeks ago I weighed myself and I was about 134 still, last week I decide to see what my weight was daily and log it. That was a bad idea because I started my period that week and usually my weight fluctates a lot then. Well, turns out the scale kept saying 139-140 lbs! I worried but figured I would wait until today (a week from last time I weighed in). I stepped on the scale last night out of curiosity after a big work out and I was 137, I typically tend to fluctate about 3-4 lbs a day at the end of typical day of eating. I woke up around 6:30 this morning and weighed myself I still was 137! I am really distraught by this and it really bothers me because I just dont understand how I could gain THAT much weight in such a short period of time. I never had a good metabolism but I never gained weight that quickly either. This week I really have been doing good counting calories and exercising burning about 400 calories a day. Can anyone tell me what could have went wrong?! It is just frustrating as there is no change really in my body or my clothes at all. Advice??

137 is well within the range of normal fluctuations.

I think it is important to take measurements once a month, in addition to weighing in. A gallon of water weighs nine pounds. Food has weight to it. You might just be seeing a change in your fluid balance and what's in your colon. I wouldn't sweat it. Just keep eating right, logging and working out.

When I started running my weight SPIKED up. That's ok. I expected it because running (or weight training) causes the body to have some positive gains, good gains.

My period added seven pounds once. Usually, it's 3-5, but one time, I went up seven. I was like, "This cannot all be period weight!" but it went back down quickly.

Another time, I was about to have a period and had flown...and I was up ten pounds. I did truly freak out a little over that one, since I'd eaten a few things I shouldn't have and the TEN POUNDS up was depressing. I didn't even weigh myself for a week because I didn't want to see that ridiculous number again. A week later, I was back down. That spike is still the biggest one on my weight graph.

Try not to wig out over those numbers. You're going to keep doing what you're doing, anyway. Even if you really do gain a few, you can lose them again. It's a small whup, not a big one. :)

Earlier this week we went to a Mexican restaurant. I weighed 3 pounds more the next a.m. as I had the previous day (same time I always weigh). Assumed my meal and chips high in sodium, expected to be up a couple. Next day still weighed at that same 3 pound higher weight. Went to bed that night, woke up about 1:30 in the a.m. and still weighed the 3 pounds higher. Went back to bed - woke up at my usual time, weighed and was back down the 3 pounds.

There are so many variables that could've influenced that gain, but the tl;dr of it is, that's still a normal fluctuation, and is likely water.

Between your period, the fact that you indulged in some salty snacks that you don't normally indulge in, and considering you weighed in after a "big" workout, you could've easily put on a few pounds of water. (Exceptionally big workouts always add water to the scale for me. I'm still shedding what I gained from a really long run I tried last weekend.)

Thanks guys, I am trying not to sweat it too much as all of my clothes fit the exact same and I don't think I look any different from when I was at the 130-132 range. I become a bit obsessive with the scale at times which is hard because I tend to be hard on myself then.

Another question is, in the summer I wasn't working (I am a teacher) and I would weigh at around 9-10 in the morning bc that is when I woke up. Now I wake up around 6:30 so do you think this could be why and maybe I have been higher in weight? It just doesn't make sense after a whole day of eating that I would be 137 and weigh the exact same 12 hours later after not eating a thing.

I'm in a similar place the last week to 10 days. I've had consistent weight loss, been really pleased and then outta the blue went up for no real reason I could see.
I'm now back to where I was 10 days ago (and today is the last day of my period). So I figure it must be a monthly thing but my weight has fluctuated by 4lbs. Which I think is a lot when I had hoped to be losing.

I was quite disheartened and worked out extra hard this week. I'm engouraged by this thread and hopefully in another day or two will see another decrease.

    Why doesn't it make sense?
