Hi All:

My name is Kay and I live in Winston-Salem, NC. I am in the process of being approved for lap band surgery which is to occur on July 12. I want to use this site to help me with the exercise portion of my program. I would like to lose about 100 pounds and hope that I am successful. I know it is going to be an arduous and long process, but I am optimistic that this is the best thing for me and for my health. I currently have diabetes, high blood pressure and two artificial knees and a hip replacement as well. So one more surgery doesn't frighten me in the least. I feel like I am an old pro, lol. I would like to make friends to have some support as I know that when we have support of family and friends we tend to do better. With that said, please don't be a stranger and I won't either. Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Welcome to MFP. You'll find a lot of support and friends here.

I'm impressed with your attitude - you look forward to life and to change, which is simply awesome.

The biggest thing I can say MFP helps me with is to be aware of what I'm eating because I'm becoming aware of my choices. I hope you find similar value in your experiences here.

Hi Kay, I am Pam and I live in Defuniak Springs, FL. I had the gastric bypass surgery in Nov. of 2010. I just want you to know that the surgery is not a fix all but a TOOL. I am about 7 months post op and have lost 91 lbs thus far. I had lost 98 but was put on steriods for arthritis and it has made me retain some water about 7 lbs worth of it. I hate having to be put on that drug but you have to do what you have to do I guess. I can relate to the health issues.. I have diabetes, high blood pressure, gastric perisis not sure of that spelling... it is where the stomach does not empty. I have had lots of mini strokes, I have nueropthy not sure of spelling of this one either...I have vision issue due to the diabetes and the strokes. I also am in stage 3 kidney disease from the diabetes and blood pressure issues.. Now with all that said... I have a normal blood pressure now, my kidney function is getting a little bit better, my diabetes is a lot better..I am on the insulin pump and was taking about 100 units a day plus about 40 before each meal. now I take about 24 units a day and none before I eat. I was taking about 22 different medicines before the surgery now I take half that amount. I hope you have the best of luck with the surgery . I will be praying for you and that you will be successful at reaching your goals. If you would like add me as a friend. I would love to follow your success. Best wishes Pam
