I'll be doing my 1st century next weekend. TOMRV, the Tour Of the Mississippi River Valley, from Bettendorf, IA to Dubuque, IA( through Illinois and part of Wisconson). It's a two day ride, day 1, 109 miles, day two, different route consisting of 90 miles back to Bettendorf. Day 1-6000 feet of climb. Day 2-4000 feet of climb. Who thinks Iowa is flat? I can tell you-It's not! I have been training through spin classes since October of last year, and also have trained for and ran two half marathons in that time period. I've been riding 100+ miles a week additionally since mid April. I cannot, however simulate the actual climbs i will be up against on the tour because we don't have hills that are as long or as steep. It's a fantastic event, well organized, well staffed and supported by our local bike club.
Good luck on your endevour! Sounds like a tough ride to conquer!

wowowow MiloBloom that is a DOUBLE century, woow!!

I am going to ride my first century 9/24, The San Luis Obispo Lighthouse Century. I'm doing the "flat" or 3500 ft. climb.

I've been a spin instructor for 7 years, but just got out on the road 2 months ago with an encouraging friend. My first ride was 35 miles, and once weekly we ride 25-35 miles, plus spin classes. On days I'm not riding, I SUP (stand-up paddleboarding) and dance (ballet and belly dancing).

Living in Socal, it is pretty hilly, so I'm getting used to that; last two weeks I rode some steeper hills. Mostly, though I need to get more time in the saddle in preparation for Sept. Going to hit about 30 miles tomorrow, then 40 the next 2 weeks, then 50. I have typically been riding about 14-16 mph, but I want to bump that up a bit to be comfortable up to 18-20 for 50.

I've started my purple pectin for my knees and one hip to get ready by September. woooo! I'm excited (and scared too).
