Nerve pain

I started the c25k in May and managed to get through it and absolutely loved it! About 6 weeks ago I started to get pain in my hips when running. One side resolved but the right one gradually got worse, to the point that I can now hardly walk and is the worst pain ever! I've seen a Physio who's sure that I've irritated the femoral nerve and had given me exercises to do. I'm just wondering if anyone else has experienced this and how long it took to resolve, was it gradual or overnight and were you able to run again after? The thought of not running again is really depressing as it's taken me 45 years to get started! Also wondered if I was lighter would it help as I've got about 60lbs to lose

Bravo on the commitment and it is great to hear the dedication. I'm only speaking on this as my wife went through the almost exact same issues after our daughter was born. First, I would suggest taking a few weeks to break up your cardio workout to using the elliptical or stair climber and the treadmill. This is going to help with impact and still allow you to reach your target heart rate. This will help with the joint if it is in fact the issue. Also, you can alternate hot to cold pads on the area of the problem. Do not apply any chemical and limit how long you keepthe heat on.0

Sometimes as we get older it's wise to break up the work outs do you don't do the same repetitive motion over and over. I love the Casio workout of jogging but also do a DVD workout program which exercises lots of other groups of muscles. I am happy to be able to jog 3 days a week. See what your doctor says but I'd bet with some rest and switching around your work up you'll be able to get back to jogging. Good luck and be patient in the healing process.

I haven't had the SAME exact problem, but I do get piriformis syndrome. The muscle gets inflamed and pinches my sciatic nerve and it is ridiculously painful and annoying. It also comes with super tight hip flexors.
Anyway, I've seen a very good massage therapist who can help the muscle swelling go down and besides that, lots of foam rolling and relieving the tension with a tennis, lacrosse, or hand ball has helped.0 -
Yep, I have had the same thing happen to me. As we get older things don't work as well and you are heavier so there is more of a toll on your body. Eat in a calorie deficit for weight loss and exercise is for health and well being. If it were me I would walk instead of run. It really is the same benefit but is easier on you.0

Go and see your doctor. There are way too many things it could be to follow advice from a forum. (Sorry fellow repliers I am coping with a MIL that refused to go to the doc and has been in sever pain for 3 months.)
Once you are cleared by your doc, have a look at doing aqua fit (or water walking). It will be much gentler on your joints as you lose weight, low impact too.
Cheers, h.0
