I started my weight loss journey on 9/7/15. I have been overweight for most of my life but never attempted to diet. I ate what ever I wanted and large portions of it until I was overly stuffed - loved fried foods, heavy carbs (mashed potatoes, pasta, etc), fast food, and some sweets. I never like taking pictures because I didn't like the way I looked on them. How I thought I looked translated to something totally different when looking at a photo of myself. Also I was tired of getting winded just from walking and bending over just to tie my shoes. The only exercise I would get would be my commute to work which includes a 7 min walk to the train station from my house and then a 15 min walk downtown to work. Repeat on the way home. Better than nothing but I still was not active overall.
I was greatly inspired by reading online weight loss blogs and success stories, and seeing how people were able to turn the ship around and significantly improve their health and lifestyles. Cold turkey I cut out all of the fried foods, fast food, and sweets, ate smaller portions, and started eating foods with nutritional value (chicken, fish, turkey, veggies, fruit, whole grains, etc). I started using my gym membership that I've paid for but hardly ever used and walked the treadmilI. Started slow but what was important is that I was moving. I started tracking my calories and steps on MFP which has changed my life!
I never thought I would be able to lose weight and have a healthy lifestyle (not diet) and now it is happening. I have another 67 lbs to lose. I know it's going to be tough but I'm 100% committed to put in the work and keep going even through the hard days.
How did you start you weight loss journey? I'd love to hear it!

Congrats! Best of luck on your journey! Mine started with a broken engagement and depression. I gained a lot of weight unfortunately but now I'm on my way to healing my entire being. Changed my eating habits, eating healthy and exercising everyday. Feeling wonderful again and motivated.0

In Jan 2013 I was 268 lbs. And couldn't look at my face in the mirror.
started logging everything, made slow changes to what I was eating.
Have lost 71 lbs.... but has taken almost 3 years.
slow and steady... patience and time.0 -

Welcome and good job!
I don't have a dramatic story. I was just tired. Tired of the way I felt, tired of not being able to walk up a flight of stairs without panting, tired of having to settle for clothes I could find in my size etc. I knew I had to do something.
I slowly worked on my fitness first, then started reading/researching/learning about weight/fat loss, but when I changed up the way I eat was when I started to see changes. I don't cut any foods out but I learned portion control, started learning the calorie counts in things and I started keeping a food journal which helped me learn my eating patterns and triggers.
It took about 15 months, but I lost 80 lbs and have kept it off almost 2.5 years.
Good luck to you!0 -
I started by not overthinking it too much, and feeling inspired by the fact that I didn't need to cut out any favorite foods. All I needed was a consistent calorie deficit.
