Very toned up but somehow didn't gain muscle or lose fat

I've been eating maintenance per request of a nutritionist. I haven't been running due to chest pains, but my doctor said I was cleared to run anyways. I have been doing the elliptical 45 minutes a day, four to five days per week, for one month. I've been panting and sweating by the end. I went down two pants sizes and fit in my XS clothing, yet I weigh the same: 147 lbs at 5'2, very overweight.

What is going on? If I gained muscle, I would have seen a drop in BF percentage. Yet, I haven't seen a drop in BF percentage, and I am still the same weight. I'm eating maintenance with a binge here or there, but nothing that I didn't make up for later through extra exercise. I couldn't have binged over 3500 calories, and even if I did, that's just one lb. so why would my BF percentage be the same but I fit in smaller clothes with no muscle gain?

How are you determining your BF%?

    How is it being tested?
Calipers, Bod Pod, Bioelectric Impedance (scale or handheld machine)

    Tested with hand held machine.

Then it is highly likely that the reading was wrong. Bioelectrical Impedance is actually a pretty inaccurate way to measure BF%. How hydrated you are, if you have had anything to eat, time of day, and various other things can all make the reading inaccurate.

Omron a company who makes scales and handheld devices even states:

Ignore the scales. Except for food scales they're awesome.
Get your nutritionist to measure you instead.

why do you make this assumption in bold? that is not accurate at all.
