Ok guys we need support. We started dieting / life change on the 2nd. We have a trip planned to Busch Gardens and Water Country USA for the 17th thru the 19th. This is something that may happen once ever few years, IF THAT!
Our question is this, should we be calorie counting? Or just mindful? Should we not indulge in the "goodies" or consider it a wash with the amount of activity we will be getting?
Please any advice or tips will be great, I do not want to have to "start" all over with my dieting... I am very determined.
(any good ideas for restaurants or healthy take out meals?)

I just got back from a vegas trip a week ago and i was going to calorie count but at the last minute decided not to. I ate at the buffets once everyday, I did go for the most healthy alternatives on the menu and i tried not to over eat over eat. I walked alot up and down the strip. At the end of it the walking offset the extra calories and i did not gain. I think if you stay at 'maintanace calorie intake' you should be ok and not have to worry about logging just be mindful of what you eat.0

You should still count your calories, but maybe instead of trying to maintain a calorie deficit on vacation you could try to make your goal to balance calories in and calories out. Both of those activities will involve a lot of walking I think, and if you can burn 500 calories per day on vacation, you can probably eat 2500 and still be balanced.0

I would suggest be very mindful of what you are eating. Don't fret over the calories, but try not to overdo it. You will find that if you don't over eat and eat healthy foods, you will have more energy to enjoy your vacation. If you have a data phone, definitely check the calories of what you intake to keep yourself mindful. It is easy to get off track and sometimes harder to get back on track, but if you don't go too far off track, you will be able to jump back on after vacation. Have fun!0

i agree... you just try to maintain and be mindful... you don't want to spend your VACATION counting calories or even missing out on fun, new, delicious treats... it IS VACATION after all! Just take what you've learned so far with MFP... have an idea of how many calories things are and make better, healthier decisions when eating out at restaurants (but I say still go for something new and fun!). You'll be doing A LOT of walking, so I'm sure that will help0

Enjoy your trip and have fun! Do you have a smartphone, if so you can still log in and check restaurants. If you do not have a smartphone I would try to look up restaurants if you know what is around there and make a list of the healthier choices. Just try to remember what you have learned on MFP about healthier choices, nothing wrong iwth indulging on vacation in a treat or two, have fun and back on track when you get home!0

Yes you should be counting your calories. This is the most important part of weight loss, especially at the beginning. If you don't count everyday you will not know exactly how much you are putting in your body, hence the weight will not come off. We all want to indulge in goodies and treats either on vacation or at parties, etc. But you need to be accountable to yourself and your personal weight loss goals. Earn your treats. Don't eat a treat then say "I'll work it off later." Later may never come.
If you are determined to lose weight, then use this vacation as a challenge. Count every calorie you put in your mouth, make good food choices, and be as active as you can. This journey is a hard one, and a very emotional one. You may feel sad or depressed at first because you can't indulge the same way you use to. But when the pounds start coming off, you whole attitude towards food will change.
You can do it. Believe you can do it.0 -
I started in January and have had a trip to Vegas and a trip to Disneyland during the last 4 months. You will be walking alot, so that is good. Try to get in a workout (walk/run, or what ever) before you hit the parks and limit yourself to maybe a treat a day. But definitely count your calories!! Even if you go over a bit each day, you will eat less if you are mindful of your eating. Enjoy!!! you will be surprised at how much more those treats are enjoyed when you are having only a little and not every meal.
Have a lot of fun!! I love Busch Gardens!!:drinker:0 -
Some great ideas here. I am beginning to see a pattern. Count (not unanimous), Be mindful, Enjoy and don't over indulge.
I am not one to eat out nearly ever... Any one place better then the next, or all about choices once there..0
